65 Fastback Restomod. What do you think?
Another newbe here. LOOKS LIKE MY KIND OF SIGHT!!! Not just trailer queens and originals. Would Love to hear from others who have done this kind of stuff! Been a big fan of Clone350's website (Awsome car and site!!!) before I saw he posted on this forum.
Restomod project underway. Here is where I'm at so far:
'65 Fastback. Bought as shell (basketcase), kind of beat up but pretty muck rust free. Gold with gold interior so no original for me.
My personal hack job includes: Rod & Custom MII Front suspension, Through the floor subframe connectors (not sure how to hide these, 2x3 rect. tubing, anyone else done this?), driveshaft tunnel raised 2" for Tremec, new torque boxes.
Engine: 351w bored .040, Flat top KB hypereutectic (spelling?) pistons, truck "football" rods, roller cam conversion, Comp small BC cam 513I/526E 289 duration, AFR185 heads, Performer rpm intake, BBK ceramic fox body 351 swap headers (These are a thing of beauty!!! and fit like they were made for the mII swap), proform roller rockers. Engine balanced, ready to assemble. Stock fox body FMS 351 pan (big enough?). No carb yet, any suggestions? Might EFI later, any thoughts?
Trans: Tremec 3550 (bought off ebay, hoping its good). Stock alum. bellhousing, Need skatter shield?
Rear: 9" Granada rear w/3:70 traction-lok. Shelby under-ride traction bars.
Misc: Clutch cable conversion, Power brake booster conversion , Roller clutch pedal conversion (Mustang Steve stuff).
Still straightening out body panels for paint. Thinking something like a clone but with bright silver with black stripes. Currently eyeballing the '65 fiberglass hood with 67-68 GT350 scoop on ebay, any thoughts? Have bolt-on GT350 scoop but thinking thats not going to do it. Chrome bumpers or racing apron. My thoughts are bumpers, any thoughts?
Interior: Standard white face instrument cluster with Shelby Pod. Lacarra Wheel, Black Scat Procar Rally Seats. Fold down rear seat. Underdash air conditioning. Roll bar?
Currently have some 17" X 8" Bullet wheels on for measurements. Love the Hopsters some of you guys are running. Thinking those will most likely be the final choice.
OK enough rambling, Any thoughts, suggestions.

i would gow ith something different color wise, people might mistake it for eleanor. besides there is a guy here named Ronnie who has one that color scheme. try silver with blue or burgundy stripes, not too many with those colors around. as for the R model apron or bumpers why not do both? they make R model aprons for use with the stock bumpers and they look pretty good too. otherwise it sounds like you have a really nice project going on there. post up some pics when you get a chance
Thanks for the reply bnickle.
Yeah, I'm not set on the color for sure. Always liked the white with blue or blue with white stripes but wanted to be a little different without getting too carried away. I've also been considering an aqua blue with silver stripes.
I like the apron with bumpers idea for sure. The only draw back I have that here in Missouri, we have to run a front licence plate and I'm not sure where I would put it. Could probably get away with it for a while but it sure would give 'em an excuse to pull me over...

Welcome Tim!
As far as color, Here's a COOL application - even though it's a 2005, you can play with body & stripe colors to get a pretty good idea of what different combos look like.
The rest of your combo is sounding pretty good.
Planned completion date???

Ditto. A front plate is required where I live, but I've never been pulled over. Seems to me one of those minor infractions an officer might add to a ticket if he were to catch you doing something a little more serious (i.e. speeding, spinning tires, etc.).
GT350clone: Cool site!. The sonic blue with white is it! Just a little afraid of how straight the car has to be with the darker colors. This car was pretty beat up and had a few panels replaced. I guess it depends on if I decide to hire out the paint or try to do the majority of it myself. Its not really that dark though...
Completion date: most likely Spring 2006
Hoping to get the car painted this spring or early summer and reassemble from there. Unfortunately I have two kids that keep me running non stop.
I am leaning towards agreeing with you guys on the plate thing. My wife drove her '83 GT for a couple years without one and never got a ticket. Good points, thanks!
The blue on the z car looks similar to the sonic blue. Nice!

I don't know why so many people have trouble with that... I've laid rubber everywhere and generally travel well above the limit. Never had any police trouble there or for something like a license plate not on the front

you're supposed to use an ice pick on that front bumpercar bumper.

Stroked66: Nice car!!! Just what I'm shooting for. Nice web site also! That project really reminds me of mine (or at least what I want mine to be). Even have the bolt on gt350 scoop which will most likely get tossed in favor of a fiberglass. Really like the shot in front of the old garage. Bet you get a ton of compliments.
How do the traction bars behave on the street? Are they noisy?

Yeah, I suppose I get my share of compliments B)
Traction bars work well to control hop, and I'm sure they help me hook up somewhat. But I've got tons of power with the Stroker, so breaking loose doesn't take much. Traction bars don't cause any noise, but they do limit spring travel somewhat, so when you combine that with my 3/4 rear sway and 5 leaf springs, you’ve got one STIFF ride

[/b][/quote]OK got ya, thanks. I figured it was something like that, one pic did remind me of the 69' winter blue poly shade. I'm trying for a simillar effect right now myself trying to create a gunmetal/anthracite type of color by using a dark almost graphite gray with a bluish pearl to it.
