i have 572's in my cigarette, and not only are they the baddest engines i have ever owed they are bullet proof. ive posted in another thread that im looking to do a late 60s fastback with serious power. in my eyes why bother doing anything without doing it right. im looking to get 650 to 700 hp natural with no blower. what would you guys do if you were me, would you stick to what you know and use my engine builder or go with a ford 514, i think that the one. im doing this ride from the ground up and doing it right, prob doing some of the work myself and subbing out what i cant handle. would you guys send me hate mail if i put a chevy motor in a fastback, even though im a ford guy to death. the 572 would be merlin, prob same as in my boat. what do you guys think........ stecz

I believe there is a stroker kit to go more than 514 now don't they?

69 Fastback is my personal favorite body style, you made a good choice there. And pal, put a FORD in that FORD!!!!

ok, let it be known im a ford man through and through. just wanted to see if i put a twist on it what you guys thought. i see there is a 520 long block i can get my hands on. this is along the lines im talking bout. just thought you guys could respect some big natural power. so who is going to give the breakdown on what this car is. 69 i know.. sport roof, mach 1, what is this bas hiney ride. these are the lines that are keeping me up at night. cant wait to start this ride. walk me through this fastback, teach me the way.....lol...

If your intent is to mod and customize than your best bet is probably just a plain jane sportsroof (known as fastback in years prior) with a baseline V8 or even a six if your gutting it all anyway. Do not waste the money on a real Mach 1 just to change it. Esthetic wise there is no difference in what I gather attracts you to this body style, ie: the side scoops, duck tail, nose, etc.... Think of a Mach as the perfomance model, it repalced the GT line after 69' as the deluxe option but the bodies and styling is essentially the same. It also has the largest engine bay of all years prior, capable of holding 429 Cu out of the factory so you can shoe horn your desired engine in with no mods to the shock towers unless you plan on an R&P anyway.

BTW, while I would not personally do it, I offer this for thought. Rumor has it that the hot rod crowd is slowly headed towards our decades and cars and they have never blinked once at throwing a chevy motor in a ford model 30 or 40 years older, so I see no reason why when they get here they are suddenly gonna consider the practice taboo. My feeling is that in another decade or so the cross breeding will be running rampant all ver our hobby, so you would not be alone get stoned to death like you might think.

hey pakrat, thanks for taking the time. your right.. im looking for the look of the car and ill do what i have to do to it to achieve the look i want. most important look wise, the roof, and the tail end. lights and the tail really apeals to me on the layout, more so than the 68s or earlier fastbacks. something about this yr that has cought my eye. i have even been heavily considering cloneing the look of this 69. i just love the look of it in every way. how its lowered, the rims, just the lines in general. i know whatever i do to the engine it will be unique. i have a meeting with my engine builder and we will come up with a plan. its good to know that i will not have to cut this thing apart too bad to put a super block in her. so what you are saying i dont have to get a mach 1 to acheive the exact look im looking for with the tail and the sport roof? ive been doing some homework, and it seemed that the 69 tail changed just a liitle bit, am i right with this? thanks guys for all your help with this.. stecz

oh yeah what do you think about my ride in a solid silver??? i love it....

No probpem, and yes, all the features you like are part of the sportsroof body style in general and are not Mach 1 specific features in any way shape or form. You would be surprised out of all the 69 sportsroofs out there how many are Mach 1 clones.

You don't need to explain the attraction to me I get it fully, I had dreamed of owning one since I was 16 years old. 16 years later I was finally in a position to realize that dream but since it was to be a summer fun car only, I opted to go convertible instead. I still dream about the sportsroof though and as you can see from my pics, my car is dressed as a Mach 1 anyway. Now that I am forced to rebuild it all over again I am going to the next level and adding the duck tail and side scoops from Shelby as well as the roll bar and probably some other restomod things.
