1967 Mustang hard top C code with 1968 engine?

Is it possible that late 67 model mustangs came with a C8AE Engine?.

C 289 Challenger Cruise o Matic
8=1968
A=Full Size

I saw some articles that said that A engines Generic Full Size was not only used in galaxie or fairline, said that some of the mustangs could be c code with a A type engine.

I think it is usually the other way around. For example a block cast in 67 could be found in a 68. Apparently there were some castings ford held onto for a few years too, but you shouldn't be able to find a newer block casting in an older car from the factory.

Note that this is the information I came across while researching my own block - I am in no way an expert!
