1966 Upper Console (with CD player) *PIC*
Finally finished it! It's not a terribly complicated design; I just haven't had much free time. Haven't hooked up the stereo yet either. The wires exit the rear of the console, and will travel along the inside of the interior panels.
Plywood construction with aluminum strips for reinforcement. I used metal plates and attached it at the mirror location and under the rear fastback window trim. The tension created by the bow (of the top of the console itself) makes these two mounting points sufficient. White vinyl and real wood vaneer finish it off...

very darn cool, i've often thought of converting the OH console i got for my car to something like what the "goldfinger" mustang had, the one that never made it into the movie. here is a link to the car i'm talking about

Thanks Lman.
We can put one in your Eleanor...
Everyone needs an Eleanor; and more importantly, everyone needs an Eleanor with an upper console!
I'm sure you feel the same.
Thanks Lman.

LOL, yeah you're totally innocent, right? :hiding:
...other mods to the interior of the car or plans in the future for some?
Funny you should ask!
I'm just finishing up a gauge pod. I've never been nuts about the '65 Shelby versions, so I designed a similar one to hold a couple small gauges (probably temp and oil pressure). It will still mount in the center of the padded dash (where the '65 Shelby units did); but will hopefully look a bit nicer. Plus, it won't require any cutting of the vinyl dash. It will attach to the radio plate.
I've also had a floor console in the works for some time now. I only recently decided what A/C registers I want to incorporate into it, so it's back on the workbench. Shouldn't be too long now...
