1966 Mustang and Data Plate Date Code

Hello,

I have a 1966 Mustang convertible that was at one time the subject of a restoration attempt by a prior owner. I believe the prior owner must have replaced the data plate on the door. The date code on the data plate reads "20W"; however, I can't find code "W" as a valid month code for a 1966 Mustang. I assume that the date code was transferred incorrectly from the original data plate. The car was built in Dearborn, and carries a consecutive unit number of 370066. I am hoping that someone with a 66 Mustang built in Dearborn with a consecutive unit number somewhere near this one would be able to help me determine the month in which my Mustang was built. I would be very appreciative for any assistance. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Scott A. Martin

Thanks for your reply - is it correct that 1966 Mustangs were still being produced as late as 20Sept66? I would have thought that production would have switched over to 1967 Mustangs by then. Please confirm, and thanks again for your help here!

Well I don't know, but they built about 600,000 and if your car was #270065 it would have been around the spring... like May.
I found 390294 was built in the end of June.

Hey 66mustang.net

I was just checking your website and recognized your car, I saw it in Nashville and even took a pic of it ! Small world ... Good luck with the decoding.
