1960s suspention

I've got a 1965 mustang. Someone told me that the 65 Shelby's have an upgraded suspension. I'm trying to make my car car handle better. Can anyone tell me what's different in the Shelby's or what I can do to my car to make it handle?

The differences on a '65 Shelby were stiffer springs, re-located upper control arms, Koni shocks, quick ratio steering, shock tower braces, and better tires. These are still the basic changes to make. But there is a lot more technology available now so you can spend a lot of money for coil over shocks, rack and pinion steering and tires they couldn't have dreamed of then. My suggestion is to check the Mustang parts stores online and decide how much you want to spend. If you don't have disc brakes, you upgrade them first, or you may get them as part of a complete package. Be prepared to spend a lot if you change to other than stock replacement components.

What he said.

Google "Shelby Drop". It costs absolutely nothing, and takes about an hour a side to do.

You need front disc brakes, soonest. I stayed Shelby stock and went with these guys: http://www.discbrakeswap.com/Mustang...s%20SWAP3.html

The best part is you get rid of the crappy single master cylinder.

You need a real export bar:

I would go with Scott Drake shocks and front and rear springs:

And then you can convert it to a rack and pinion unit. I have a unisteer in mine that works great.

Alternatively, you could go with something like the Total Cost Involved front end, which while pricey, opens up the engine bay for many possibilities.

Have fun. I've had a bunch souping up my 1967 convertible. It's a complete different car now that I've made my mods. I especially like locking up my disc brakes and bringing it to a completely controlled stop.

Sweet thanks. I do already have discs on the front and power steering. I am planning on upgrading both. Any thoughts on if the Shelby drop will fix wearing on the outsides of the tires? I recently had an alignment and that's when the strange wear began.
