Fords Wins Second Consecutive Engine of the Year Award with the 1.0L EcoBoost

OK, so this isn’t directly related to the Mustang…yet. But it will be, because it’s widely speculated that the 2015 Mustang will finally receive EcoBoost engines and while we doubt the Mustang will ever see the pint-sized 1.0L turbo three-banger, it’s interesting to note that Ford has the whole EcoBoost thing down to a science.
In fact, this is the second year running that Ford’s 1.0L three-cylinder mill has won the prestigious award. Just think, if Ford’s three-, four- and six-cylinder EcoBoost motors are this good, can you image how good a twin-turbo 5.0L V8 will be? Woowee! We can only hope!

For perspective, have a look at just how small the 1.0L engine actually is. Ford engineers disassembled the motor, put it in a suitcase bound for an overhead bin and flew to Los Angeles. Yes folks, you can carry-on your motor!
