Ford Mustang Wins J.D. Power’s 2018 ‘Initial Quality’ Award

Mustang among top three top-rated coupes and convertibles in J.D. Power’s ‘2018 Initial Quality Study.’

The 2018 Mustang is already on top but that doesn’t mean others can’t acknowledge the greatness our beloved pony car has on tap. Take, for example, J.D. Power and Associates. Every year, the research firm puts out its “Initial Quality Study,” the benchmark study for owner satisfaction with new-vehicle quality. From SUVs to convertibles, the study looks at “owner-reported problems with vehicle design and with defects during the first 90 days on the road,” and takes into account over 75,000 responses “verified new-vehicle owners.”

In the study’s Top-Rated Coupes and Convertibles category, J.D. Power presented its “Initial Quality” award in the Midsize Sporty Car segment to the 2018 Mustang. The Mustang also scored a five out of five in its initial quality Power Circle Rating, a ranking system used to help consumers find their next new vehicle.

In selecting the Mustang, J.D. Power praised its “sleeker lines, a lower hood, new grille and lighting” up front, as well as its improved performance on the road and the vast array of safety features designed to keep you and your ‘Stang alive and well. And one can’t forget the various personalization options available, including “new performance packages, fresh colors and alloy wheel selections.”

The 2018 Mustang was one of among three to be bestowed the coveted award in its category, taking its place on the podium next to the BMW 2 Series and BMW 4 Series. The Bimmers were given their awards in the Small Premium Car and Compact Premium Car segments, respectively. All three had to receive a Power Circle Rating of at least four out of five for consideration, which was easy for the Mustang as Quality is Job 1 for Ford.

With this award, new Mustang owners can rest easy their rides will give them plenty of fun and amazing memories off the lot and beyond.
