Rumors that the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC will arrive sporting a lofty price tag have been confirmed, unfortunately for many.

After years of speculation, rumors, and spy sightings, the all-new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC was revealed mere weeks ago, set to debut later in 2026 as the effective replacement for the S550-generation Shelby GT500. When we last saw the GT500 in the 2022 model year, it started out at around $80k with destination, which was quite a lot of money at the time. However, as most are well aware, things have only gotten more expensive since then, and a recent leak has confirmed a huge jump in price for the new pony car, too.

According to Ford Muscle, Kelly Aiken of KellTrac recently came across a dealer memo from The Blue Oval itself, which reveals that the base Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC starts out at $103,490 – a massive increase over the last GT500. However, things escalate greatly from there, once one starts ticking options boxes. According to this memo, the Track Pack version of the Dark Horse SC will start out at $139,990, while the limited-edition Track Pack Special Edition coming in at $170,970.

If this wasn’t disconcerting to the average pony car fan as-is, these prices don’t include the mandatory the $1,995 destination fee, nor a $3,000 gas guzzler tax – or, the inevitable dealer markups we’ll see on this new range-topping pony car. At first, it was unclear if this information was correct, but now, we have confirmation of just how much the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC will go for.

Car and Driver reached out to Ford for comment, and it responded by confirming that the Dark Horse SC will start out at $108,485, while the Track Pack has an MSRP of $144,985. While this may come as a shock to some, this pricing makes perfect sense, given what we’ve seen from Ford’s other current model powered by a variant of the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 once used in the GT500 – the F-150 Raptor R, which starts out at $112k, sans markups.

For now, we don’t know how much power this engine will have to offer in the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC, but it figures to be substantial, which is also the case with the car’s race-derived aero and suspension tech. It’s an amazing machine by any accounts, but sadly, also one that will be priced well outside the budget of many enthusiasts.
