Ford Expands Driving Skills Program
The state of public driving exams in the US is very poor as it just teaches you the basics and not much else. It’s actually a wonder how we don’t have more accidents involving teen drivers out of high school with the lack of skills taught by, typically, Physical Education teachers. That’s why Ford created the Driving Skills for Life Advanced Driving Skills Program in 2004.
As the program begins its second decade, they’ve added new simulators to the mix: alcohol impairment and driving selfies. Yes, driving selfies are a thing. Yes, it’s as stupid as it sounds.
“Over the last 10 years we have taken pride in our ability to adjust the curriculum to keep up with the constantly changing world awaiting teens and other new drivers,” said Jim Graham, Ford Driving Skills for Life manager. “We listen to the needs and concerns of teen drivers, and modify the program to keep it fresh and relevant.”
The most interesting advancement is the drunk driving suit and it replicates some of the physical and visual impairments while being drunk. Weight is added to the student arms and legs along with the googles that replicate poor vision while drunk.
Finally, the Ford Driving Skills for Life will expand into 15 countries that include Belgium, Romania, Malaysia, and Myanmar.
