5 Tips to Consider When Buying a Fox Body Mustang

For those folks looking to pick up a collectible Mustang, I’ll bet this is going to catch a few of you off guard. Of all the models you can purchase, the 5.0L Fox Body might currently be the best buy on the market.

Well, that’s according to a recent Road & Track report that claims the third-gen Mustang is actually the car that collectors should be looking at right now. In fact, according to Colin Comer, who wrote the Road and Track story, the Fox Body tops the list among all cars being collected by Gen-Xers.

But the even bigger takeaway in the story is the collection of tips it provides if you’re considering a Fox Body Mustang. We’ve listed five of our favorites below.

1. It’s easier to start with the “four-eye” (specifically 1982 to 1986) cars versus the “two-eye” composite aero headlight (1987 to 1993) models.

2. If opting for a bit more power at a reasonable price, consider a 1987 Mustang that saw an output increase of 15 horses over the 1986 model rated at 210-hp.

3. Be sure to check out special-edition models like the 1984 GT350.

4. If interested in a real steal of a collectible, consider a Fox Body Saleen Mustang.

5. Remember, the limited-edition 1993 Cobra R ranks as the most prized Fox Body collectible.
