DORA vs Vehicle Order Confirmation

What's the difference between a DORA and a VOC ?

Is the VOC just a confirmation that an order was placed, but may not be built?

Is the DORA proof that the order will be eventually built?

This is the way it was explained to me:

VOC is something that the dealership generates; customer reviews and approves (maybe); and then dealership submits to Ford.

DORA is Ford's response acknowledging that they received the order.

Hopefully one of our dealer friends can help clarify.......... but that's the way it appeared to work for my GT500 purchase in 2006.

I guess what I'm trying to find out is, what document pretty much guarantees Ford's intent to build the unit?

Good question. I have a DORA on mine but no confirmed build date or VIN that I can see.

VOC is just the dealer submitting the order to Ford. No guarantee of anything.

DORA is just Ford telling the dealer they received the order. Again, no guarantee of anything.

The order is not a for sure thing until the order status changes to "Submitted to Plant" which is Ford telling the factory to schedule it.

Thanks. My car's allocation is for January production. When would the dealer likely see the order status changed to "submitted to plant"?

My understanding is that Ford was only telling dealers which quarter a Boss 302 allocation was for, not the actual month, so your car will be built sometime between late January and late March.

There's no way to predict exactly which week Ford will submit your order. Each region will be allocated a certain # of Boss 302's each week, then it is up to the regional office and their zone reps to decide which dealers within the region will get their allocations submitted that week (as there isn't enough regional allocation each week to satisfy the cummulative allocations of all dealers in each region). Some dealers with allocation get bumped to a subsequent week. The real trick is how (as a dealer) to talk your region into submitting an order now instead of later. It is often a matter of quid pro quo, sad to say.

Happy to help. God knows the TMS forums help me plenty in return.

Unhappy

Thanks a lot Brian. I have been trying several months in Northern Virginia to get an order placed. Responses from two dealers....they have both said that they cannot submit orders until January. One is a very large dealer, one not so big.

Pretty frustrating when I see some other folks have gotten some kind of signal back.

Maybe allocation timing is being adjusted at the regional level.....

Well I know my dealer has been in contact with the zone rep about scheduling as he called my dealer on his cell phone to confirm something about my car when we were standing in the showroom last week. I'm giving my dealer the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he's talking about when he says it will enter production in January and I should have it by mid-March.....

That is entirely possible. Again, quid pro quo between the dealers and the regional office to pull strings for a quicker build date.

Then I've got to assume that the zone rep has already spoken to your dealer about scheduling your car already. Our first Boss 302 is supposed to built in the 1st quarter, but our zone rep called me last week to get its details for scheduling, so I'm assuming it'll be built very early in the 1st quarter.

I wish I understood the entire process. I order our Mustangs, SVT's, and Shelbys and stay on top of it, but I'm still mystified by the process sometimes.

if a dealer put an order in at the beginning of December with a priority of 20 with a quarter one allocation, do you think they would have some kind of build date info?

My first quarter order was submitted on Nov. 24th and I do not have a build date yet. I suspect the delayed production has also delayed any more cars being serialized. Mine is a priority 10.

My rep told us that stock orders will likely be filled before retail orders in case of quality issues. Recommended for me to change mine to a stock order to get it sooner but I'm in no hurry.
