At PPIR w/ the 90s+, my 4.6L was getting 220s consistently on the Aeroforce, which was just the start of movement on the stock gauge, when not driven too hard. If I kept it in 3rd all the way around the roval and bounced off the rev limiter briefly, and did the same in 2nd gear on the short chute, would touch 240 and stock gauge at 3/4 or more. So knew I had to back off.

I just put in a larger capacity radiator specifically because of these temps at that track last year, so a bit more coolant didn't help. I think the only thing that would is more focused airflow through the radiator, a heat extractor hood, or an oil cooler.

Or I can just do a cool down every few laps and save several hundred dollars...

For the water to spend a little more time in the radiator to cool off.

My friends who do track days in their Dodge LX cars had a LOT of issues with cooling. They found the stack-plate Derale coolers worked very well for the oil, power-steering and trans. fluids. Lots of different sizes to choose from, but there can be ordering issues...

Hadn't heard of that with the new caps... but will check. Coolant level (after sitting for two days) was 1/4" over the top of the cold area. Methinks they had it overfull.

Sounds like it. I have mine at the bottom of the cold fill range when fully cooled. Forecast high at MPH today is 88 degrees so looks like we'll find out if drilling out the fogs helps at all

Looking forward to the update and I hope it helps. Did you see my Boss last night? It passed through Nebraska and is now in Colorado.

Fingers crossed! Also found that my transmission is leaking... looks like from the top somewhere. Gotta get under it with a mirror and take a look

Lunchtime. Morning went well. This is my second trip to MPH. Best lap my first weekend was 1:42.244 at the end of the second day. First session out ran 1:42.93. Second session ran 1:42.50 with a passenger. Third session several 1:41s with a 1:41.22! Casey who is managing the track said his best time in the the track's C6 Grand Sport is a 1:43

Temp was 81F ambient and for the most part ECT stayed below 235. Last session hit 240 once or twice very briefly. I will k.ow more this afternoon as temp keeps rising.

This really interests me. My standard 5.0 GT at PPIR last weekend never even gave any thought to overheating. No limp mode, no coolant temp lights, nothing.

Obviously, that's not an apples to apples comparison. There's some definite differences that could account for a lot. I'm wondering if oil cooler (which as far as I'm aware isn't present on the GT's) location isn't causing some lack of air flow to the radiator.

The Boss 302R initially had cooling issues...from the Multimatic site:

The production Boss 302 radiator (Ford Racing # M-8005-MBR) has improved cooling over the stock 5.0 4v Mustang GT radiator.

I wonder if there is a cooling capacity difference between the 302R PWR radiator and the Boss 302 production Ford Racing radiator that is contributing to the high ECT’s being seen at the track?

We have a 3 day at BIR at the end of July. I promise to run them up there. I didn't see your car in Nebraska, but hopefully it is far off to the west by now .

Last year at Hastings (NASA RM July 2010 - Hastings Not so Kool Days) I ran a 1:41.960 in my TTC E36 M3 on Dunlop Star Specs. I'm pretty sure the Boss 302, as it sits, is good for a 39. You'll get it

Thanks man. It was only my 2nd trip to MPH so yea a driver mod should be good for 33 hundredths even without TracKey! I am anxious tohear if you have any better luck with temps your next trip out.

Driver Mod is always worth a lot

I may hit the track next Friday (High Plains Raceway) with a couple of friends. See if the holes help. Right now I need to get under there and figure out where the transmission fluid is coming from. Looks to be from the top of the transmission... maybe the fill plug.

Good to see that the Boss is already marking it's territory in the recently vacated M3 spot

Yea there were two new M3s left in the Bosses rear view mirror at BIR a couple weeks ago I'm not sure the older ones maybe aren't faster

High Plains sounds like a blast. I need to get over there but it's a 10 hour haul. So many tracks so little time......
