You might try a search for that information. I seem to remember a thread with that or a similar subject. I'll see if I can find something...

I've had this happen a few times now. Turn the key and release, and the car goes wild cranking and cranking until it finally fires up. It seems like a really long time, howerver it probably only does this for a few seconds. But still longer than normal.

At times, it probably cranked itself over more than 10 times before it fired up. Dealer knows, but hasn't done anything about it yet.

Would putting in a Start Button defeat this stupid feature?

A start button that would still require a key...? Seems pointless.

What stupid feature are you talking about? This is an electrical problem, not the actual key or switch hanging.

I'm referring to the auto start or one touch start feature of the '11's...

Stick the key into the ignition, turn it to the "start" position, once the starter begins to run, let off the key. The computer will take over and continue to turn the starter until the car starts.

I am all for this feature when it's working properly! Which is most of the time. The odd hang up isn't the end of the world..but it still has me a little concerned.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but my '05 has been taking longer than usual to fire up. But I assume it's just because of the cold, since that's the only time it does it.

Why? It's a ridiculous feature that just cost money and added complexity for nothing. You can't hold the key for 2 seconds to start your car?? Did we really send man to the moon to develop this??

It's all part of the drive by wire system, when you turn the key to "start" all it does is sends a signal to the PCM to trigger the start "cycle". Depending on the car, it will keep you from engaging the starter while the car is running, it makes it easier to add remote start, etc.

So the fault isn't in the switch -- it's perfectly normal IF your car doesn't fire up immediately. The question is, "why didn't your car fire up right away?" not "why is my starter running on?"

Mine is drive by wire and I don't have that silly start feature. I control my starter - my computer doesn't.

Your 2008 Bullitt is an at least 7-year-old engine control design. Technically you're "last generation".

Whatever friend. lolol Its all drive by wire. Ask Toyota. The 2011 didn't invent that.

But it did add the one touch. I just think it's a silly feature that adds something totally needless that can go wrong. And I think that's the issue here. I could be wrong.

Don't take it personally. I have no idea what you do in the "Oregon mountains" but I can tell you from 23 years inside "a Ford Manufacturing plant" that with every generation of powertains come with its own "advancements" and there are substantial changes when you are comparing a 2004 and a 2010 powertrain control system.

To simply say that "they're all drive by wire" is akin to looking at a 1965 Mustang and a 2008 Mustang and saying "well, they all have sparkplugs".

What he said. You'd be amazed at the little changes most people don't see.
