Redline MTL fluid change

I changed my transmission fluid today, replacing the factory fill with Redline MTL, and wanted to share some thoughts:

- Gear engagement is smoother, especially when the transmission and fluid is cold. Cold shifting now feels similar to warm shifting with the factory stuff. It's even smoother once everything warms up.

- The transmission is quieter. I had some whine with the factory fluid that has gone away now with the MTL. I believe this has been noted by others who have used MTL.

Overall I'm quite happy with the swap. I should have done it sooner (I'm at 23,000 miles). Typically I change transmission fluid every 15-20k miles.

Tomorrow I will be changing out the differential fluid with Redline 75w-90.

good deal, same results with the mtl as you have observed

you doing 75w90 in the diff. for any specific reason?
the gear oil is spec'd as 75w140 since around 2003
ford changed it as part of a tsb to cure groaning or chatter from the trak-loc

Not sure why I said 90. I am pretty sure I have the 140.

Just double-checked... 75w140.

I did not get any friction modifier, though, as the Redline stuff says it's already included. Think I'll be fine?

Haha! The factory fill is very crappy indeed. Smells nasty, looks nasty, feels nasty... ugh!

should be fine, I used Mobile1 w/FM already in it but went ahead and added a little less than 2 oz, on the container said you can add it if desired

give it 2-300 hundred miles, if it groans on tight u-turns or slow speed backing and turning add some

So I didn't end up changing the diff fluid today. I decided I didn't want to keep the stock cover so I am going to wait. Looking now at ordering the GT500/Boss piece.

I got largely the same results when I changed mine out. The whine isn't gone, but it's a heluva lot better. I had the QS in my trans when it came out.

Is there any trick to getting at the drain/fill bolts without a lift? Did you use a jack/stands or ramps?

I did it on jackstands without an issue. The worst part is finding a way to pump the fluid up into the trans.

That's the same one/style I used for my '06. It fits Royal Purple bottles perfectly but Redline bottles have a smaller opening so the pump just sits on top loosely. It still works you just have to be careful not to tip the bottle.

From the top, using 3/8" fuel line - about 4' worth. That's how I did mine. Do not have the car tilted back when you fill the trans.
