Question KONI STR.T + Steeda sport springs

Does somebody has the Koni STR.T + Steeda sport springs on their 2011 GT?, And how do you compare it to stock?. Did you like it, or you wish you had bought instead the Koni sport shocks?

I don't have these parts, but this exact combo is what Sam Strano recommended to me for my previous 08 GT. Apparently it's about the best riding lowered setup you can achieve while still improving corner performance and stance.

I've got the springs and Koni Sports. If I didn't autocross and need the adjustability, I would have gotten the STR.T based on Sam's recommendation. If this is a car you're going to hold onto for 3+ years, I'd spend the money now on the Sports but I very much have a "buy once, cry once" philosophy. I kick myself when I don't adhere to that. I wanted Borla ATAKs but bought the Roush instead to save money. Tomorrow the Roush are coming off, and the Borlas are going on. My buddy is getting a killer deal on my old exhaust because I didn't follow my own rule.

Just out of curiosity, how do the ford racing adjustable shocks compare to the koni str's? I mean the koni's are about $800 for non adjustables and the ford racing adjustables are about the same price maybe $50 more. Is there that much of a difference between koni and ford stuff? I came from German cars and the holy Grail was the kw brand and a few others which where mega bucks.

Koni STR.Ts are $400 for a set. Koni Sport Adjustables are $750 for a set. Where did you see STR.Ts for $800?

Unless I was looking at the wrong ones stranoparts.com shows $399 for two str shocks/struts. I'll double check now.

Edit: Ok, I just checked and it's for a complete set. I thought it said $399 for 2struts and then you would need to buy 2 shocks but it says 2struts and 2 shocks. That's what I get for reading from my phone.

Right, two shocks (rear) and two struts (front) = full set for $399. Sam is an amazing suspension guy, but his webmaster skills are not optimal.

What did I say that was wrong? Answer: nothing.

All the web skillz in the world aren't any good if folks don't read what is there!!!!

Ford Racing stuff isn't anything special. Folks buy it because of the name, "Ford Racing". meanwhile they are taking off other Ford parts... And fwiw, most Ford Racing suspension parts are relabeled other things. Tokico makes the dampers, Eibach the springs and bars... There isn't a lot of great information, and certainly nothing like a lifetime warranty on the dampers like say... Koni's.

I have had Ford Racing parts... I've not found it hard to improve upon them. They aren't terrible, there are certainly much worse products in the world to be sure. But don't get sucked into thinking they are perfect... they aren't.

I had my STR.T shocks/struts and Eibach Pro kit springs installed yesterday along with UPR adjustable UCA/mount and billet LCA.I had my car set up for road race and It handles like a slot car

I could have went with any number of combo's and I really did my home work and decided on what was best for my intended use.I can only give feedback on my set up but IMO it is the best bargain going.

the ride is firmer then stock but not harsh at all.I did a nice canyon run today and I could not stop smiling as I carved up the road with my new suspension.

Before

after

Any work on Koni coming out with a set that doesn't require a spacer or the old mount?

Subscribed to see how this turns out for you.

I also posted up in the big suspension thread Sam started as I'm curious if the D-specs or STR's would offer the better ride.. basically, are the D-specs worth the extra money if you never plan on racing the car but simply want a better quality ride vs the STR's.

Eventually, but not anytime soon. My guess, based on a number of things (mostly that I lent them one of my OEM struts for measurements, etc., and the current stock issues on front Sports) it'll be a year I think, maybe longer. Remember, it took them 3 to get dampers out for the S197 in the first place!

There is NO reason to worry about this, with the correct mounts it's a direct fit and gives zero problems (the rest of the damper is exactly the same). You can wait if you want, but you really aren't going to gain anything by doing it. Koni actually surprised me when they told me they think they will build a 2011+ specific strut because it's so little "issue" to use the 2010 and older stuff.

I'll be doing the Sportline springs, the prokits and milder springs from other companies just wont do it for me for what I want.

As a result, the STR's pretty much wont really work for me due to the fact that they are non adjustable. Is that correct? Given that the drop will be so aggressive?

I'd love to do the Koni Yellows, I just cannot afford it. So Koni D-specs it probably will be. What are your thoughts guys?

Sam, is there anywhere I can read more about the differences between mounts? I was considering purchasing a set of SRTs and saw the notice on your page.

FYI-I have a 2011 GT

Is this true of all 05-10 shocks? Do they all require spacers? I would prefer to not buy new mounts, but I'm curious what the options are. Do you sell or include the spacers for 2011+ owners?

Yes, it's true for all the aftermarket struts.... Even Ford Racing tells you to run the mounts from the older car. Spacers are best left for use on cars not allowed to change mounts.

You can run any 2010 older mount, like SVT mounts from Ford Racing... but I prefer the Steeda HD mounts because they aren't of the poor Ford design (a known failure point) and offer you alignment adjustment you don't have with any stock type upper strut mount.

You can call me about it if you want. It's not complicated.

I have Steeda Sports springs with Koni STR-T's. The look and handling is a lot better than stock.

Only have two minor complaints -

1) The ride is pretty rough due to the terrible roads here in Italy. Nothing that can really be done about that. There's always some trade-offs with performance upgrades.

2) I get a clunking/bumping/something noise sometimes at low speeds. I've heard various explanations for this problem but I'm not really sure what's wrong. Everything suspension wise is tight. The noise wasn't there before the shocks/struts/springs install, not sure if it's fair to blame them. It's not super annyoing so I've learned to live with it.

As far as wishing I had gotten the Sports goes... I was going to get the sports originally, but money got tight and I wasn't able to justify the extra cost. I don't regret not getting them, I probably would have set them up in a similar way to the STR-T's and never touched them again so the adjustability is not necessary for me.
