interesting perspectives from our friends with Mk V GTIs - actually many admirers.

hahah, these comments are gold....
"enjoy the downgrade"
more like
"enjoy not having to worry about electrical problems"
I bet 99-100% of the people commenting on how bad it is have never driven one.
They'll just have to learn the hard way.

Can't justify the V8 varoom and bad gas mileage.
Congrats OP. personally, seems like a bad time to be buying a gas thirsty muscle car but if you dont mind dishing out when gas prices go up, enjoy her.

Just a few good quotes:
"Lol, yeah right. The new 5.0 Mustangs are beasts. Did you go with Brembo/track package?"
"lol you must b smoking crack thinking a 5.0 is a downgrade."
Hahaha I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about the rear turn signals. But the new 5.0 is a good choice. I definitely wouldn't consider it a "downgrade." That's gotta be joke...
"Lol wow at these haters. You guys need to take a serious look at the mustang. Yeah its less practical but i hate to tell you fanboys, its WAY more car for the money than the GTI. The GTI has continously become cheapened and watered down. At least ford is willing to offer a hardcore package. The interior is on par with the restof the world, not just the rest of America. I love VW's as much as the rest of you but a good car is a good car."
"A lot of ignorant people on this thread. I like my GTI and all, but I'm not blind to the fact that the 2011 Mustang (V6 or V8) is an impressive package.
This isn't the muscle car of old folks. It is great to see how far Ford has taken the mod. motors from their anemic beginnings. I had a 96 GT (first year of 4.6L - weak, but otherwise a nice car) and it is incredible to think the 2011 has nearly double the horsepower while getting much better gas mileage."
Ahh, I see not many can deny the prowess of the new Stang. Even the ones in denial just shame themselves into a corner.

Great little cars, they've been selling for so cheap around here that I considered leasing one. MPG for the GTI is not that great though and the 0-60 time is on par w/something like a new v6 Malibu. Despite that, they're still a good drivers car and the interior is well appointed for the price range. I like the Jetta TDI Cup Edition too.

I'm not being combative, they actually seem interested in the new 5.0. I wanted to share my pics because some of them even seem like they are considering a switch. I'm just presenting them with options

You should post the pic of the glass roof taken from the hatch/back seat.

I really have a dislike for any car fanboys who can't see beyond their own brand or model to appreciate what else is out there, whether it is coming from Mustang owners, GTI owners, or whatever.
I owned a 1983 GTI at the same time I owned my 1989 5.0 LX Mustang back in the mid-90's, I really loved that GTI, great little car, but it got nearly identical gas mileage as my V8 Mustang, low to mid 20's with mixed driving, around 30 mpg even on the highway. The new GTI's still have some redeeming qualities, but the recent models weigh a thousand pounds more than my old GTI did. As bloated as Mustangs have become over the last 20 years, they aren't that bad.
