Chris' 2003 Cobra

Alright, time to start a thread on the Cobra. Many of you know I bought a 2003 Cobra in November after not having a mustang for a few years.

The 2003 Cobra has been my dream car ever since I saw a preview of it on the cover of Motor Trend.

Came in to my dealer.

Only had 30,300 some miles on it, super clean and bone stock.

Here it is as of yesterday, still bone stock.

Mods will be coming soon, 2.81 inch upper pulley sitting on the shelf waiting until I get a SCT X3 tuner.

future mods will be.
Full lenght subframe connectors
JLT Ram air intake
O/R X-pipe
Cat-back
MGW shifter
Coil over suspension

Whipple down the road, but may be a year or two. either a 2.9 or 3.4.

It was traded in to us, I got it for slightly over dealer trade in value. I won't say how much but much lower than market value on the car.

Great Find!

I'm amazed that you found a bone stock Termie! I bought mine in 2006 with only 5000mi on it and it already had mods. I remember my search for a Cobra when they were much newer and before the GT500 was available and thinking that stock 03-04 Cobras no longer exist.

IT is a great ride, if you have been in the modded Mustang game for a while you will be simply amazed how easy and responsive these cars are to mods!

I wasn't looking to buy one yet, in fact Red is not on any list of mine of colors I wanted.

I just couldn't pass it up combination of it being well taken care of by a 72 year old man at the time of trading that had factory ordered the car from this very store and did all his maintance here along with the great price I could buy it at.

I have been in the Mustang game since I started driving, 12 years ago, I have seen the results of other people with these cars and can't wait to get some mods going!

As soon as the 1/4 mile track opens I'm going to be there see what I can get outta this thing in stock form. Shooting for that magic 12.99 but who knows if I am capable of doing so in stock form.

Thumbs up

That is pretty similar to my situation. I was looking for an 03 sonic blue or an 04 Screaming Yellow but "settled" for redfire. My mom works at a bank and knew the owner was upside down on the payments. I bought the car before it got repossessed and basically made the remaining payments. It only had 5000mi on it and already had most of the mods I wanted to do to it. I wasn't quite ready to buy, but it was too good to pass up.

The best run I got out of mine was 11.30s but I'm hoping with the subframes, strut tower brace and exhaust ....and a little more experience I'll do a little better. As far as hitting 12.99 I would not be suprised, some of these things are freaks making way more than the advertised 390hp (mostly 2004 models). The first mod I would reccomend is get rid of that junky shifter. That was probably one of the best mods I made to my car, good luck on yours

Beautiful car. I know what you mean about red not being at the top of your list, but if I were offered one I'd hop on it.

As for the track; no slicks on stock IRS... All I'm saying.

I agree 100% on the shifter, getting an MGW sometime soon. Also I think I need a new clutch quadrant or somthing, I hate the clutch on this, doesn't disengage until the floor almost, I tried doing the self adjustment that ford says but it doesn't help. Need to do somthing to get the clutch engagment point much higher.

I can't keep it stock but I will be keeping all the stock parts. So far I have done a couple things for free.

Took off the pulley cover, air silencer and the hood blanket.

Chris you are going to hate working on the clutch quadrant. Best bet is to remove the seat..will make it much easier.
Great car though man.. would love one myself.

Finally got to the track! It was nice today but very hot and humid.

First pass ever with the cobra.

Best run of the day was my 2nd of 10 passes.

60' 2.261
1/4 13.579
mph 105.57

As the day went it got hotter and my car was only trapping mid 104's and I couldn't do any better then 13.7's... I was hoping to get into the lower 13's but no luck this time. I was having a heck of a time hooking up no matter what i tried.

But all in all I had a great time!

that's one thing I've got to do, and I kinda figured seats out would be the easiest way. Boy is that gonna look funny!
