"Someday" is finally here... bye bye vinyl!

After 4 years of saying "someday I will have them painted" its really happening. Going with G5 - Alloy Metallic on my TL - Satin Silver. These will be exactly like my vinyl were, 10" stripes with a 2" gap bumper to bumper buried in clear. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Should look awesome. Good choice on a different color for the stripes. Most people with your color car would go with black stripes. Cant wait to see it

Please post some pics after it's done. I am thinking about doing the same thing and would like to see how it looks.

This just in from the shop.... "Everything is painted, we are going to put the glass in and assemble a portion of it for a sand, block and buff process."

Looks veddy nice to me too! Please post some closer up pics when you are done as I am leaning to do the same colour on my LL.

Is this the same alloy metallic that was an OEM colour on some the S197's? Is it a darker gray colour?

Yes that is the same Alloy Metallic available on the 07-09 S197 Mustang. I opted for a factory paint code to save me some heartache down the road if I ever need to match it or replace anything. The Ford paint code for Alloy is G5.

I personally think that would be awesome on a LL. It's *almost* black but much more interesting. Only issue I would see is that Alloy is metallic but not sure about the LL? My Satin Silver is metallic so it goes well together.

Thanks for the information. I have been looking for awhile now for someone with alloy metallic stripes......you are the first one.

As you can see in my pic, I have the Roush replica grill and have a Cervinis "GT500 style" chin spoiler to put on still. I plan on getting alloy metallic stripes......and sometime when someone has a good sale.....I would like to get a Saleen Super Shaker charger! I think the black shaker scoop would look pretty cool with the alloy metallic stripes.

Those are my plans Cant wait to see your finished product.

And that sounds like a great plan! I wasn't able to find anyone with alloy stripes either, but I did find several alloys with silver stripes and they looked pretty good. I suppose my car is just Bizarro version of those!

So next question... keep or loose the side stripes? Not sure how close they will be... I sure would miss them but on the other hand I'd like not having any more vinyl on the car! Wonder if the paint might be faded though, it certainly was on the roof.

I guess if it is not too obvious, you may want to keep the rocker panel stripes.....on the other hand if it is quite a noticeable difference.....then you may want to lose them or have them painted on at a later time.

Because they are not side by side and provided the side stripes are in good shape, it may be hard to notice any difference?? That is what I am thinking, but you will need to decide when you see the finished product.

I am going the more economical route for the moment with getting 3M vinyl stripes....probably from HiPro Graphics in CA. Has anyone ordered from here before?

Tim,

Thanks for reaffirming my plans.....I have been thinking about it for a long time now, but have never been able to find anyone with alloy stripes......and was a bit hesitant. I dont think LL is metallic, but I am thinking it should be OK.

I checked them out and they have an "Alloy Metallic" option, but I wonder if that's any different then the "Charcoal Metallic" I picked up form Baltimore Street Mods? They may just call them different things at HiPro.

You going to be contacting them about a kit? I'm curious if they have some different options then others or they simply renames to the closest factory paint color.
