What year and model did those things originally appear on?

The Shelby GT's - I think they started in 07? Check the Timeline to know for sure.

Not the GT500 - right? Just the Shelby GT

I'll check back on the web. Thanks.

Yes Shelby GT's, starting in 2007.

There was also a version of the emblem used on the Ford GT supercar but it is not the same as the one used on the SGT

Yeah, the style seen on the GT supercar is very similar to the ones seen on the AC Cobra, then for the SGT they updated the design.

I wonder when the first recorded use of them was. I wonder if Shelby used them to show it was a Ford powerplant in a British chassis.

I believe you are correct. I think originally Shelby held the rights to the original style emblems, and later released them to be produced. He still holds the rights on the re-styled design, driving up the cost to what we see now at around $300/pair. Only way to get them was to buy an engine or heads from FRPP (promotion) or own an SGT, you have to have an SGT VIN to order them.

They were released by Ford to the dealers and FRPP suppliers as a mistake, but that was quickly remedied. As a result a few lucky people got pairs for around $40 I think.

It is just a matter of time before they are released IMO.

I hope not. Paid over $200 for mine on eBay from someone who got them with a crate motor. I wouldn't mind at all if they were never fully released.

So, to that end, why put emblems on cars at all if we all know what they are? Maybe its because people like the way the look... Maybe its because limited edition emblems set their cars apart... Why do people put special edition bumpers on their non-special edition cars??

Yes, no crap its power by Ford, but the emblems I had on before said "GT," and no crap it was a GT either. Get over it. To each their own.

I've gotta agree. Ford knew that this car looked so much the way a Mustang should look, that they didn't even bother putting the words "Mustang" anywhere on the car.

"get over it"

Ok tough guy. Different models of Mustangs...some have a V6 some have a V8. Hence GT emblems. Some aren't powered by Dodge and some powered by Ford. Its redundant. Far more redundant than an emblem signifying what trim it is. You said "to each their own" so let me think what I want. Go put those badges on so we dont think you have an LS1 in your car.

Good luck getting them. Like it was said, they are nearly impossible to get now. If you actually have a Shelby GT and need a new set due to a wreck, etc they do vin checks and usually make you send in the old ones and prove that it was wrecked. It's not easy by any means.
