Who Is Willing To Admit To This?
I was wondering how much money everyone has put into their mods? I am thinking power adder but throwing another $6000 to $7000 into my car doesn't seem very smart. I would lose my butt if I was to sell the car tomorrow. I didn't buy my car to sell but at some point in time I will sell it and I don't want to take a huge loss.
Car - out the door $28900
Mods - approx $6000 to date
Total - $34900
Now for $34900 I have a car that Looks as good as a Shelby GT (IMO) and performs better than cars that cost more. Power adder puts me at $42K

Mines not a GT but I'll chime in.
Out the door - $21,100
Mods to date - approx. $7000
Total so far - $28,100 give or take.
For that I could have bought a stock GT but I know I would have modded that also so I justify it to myself that I'm still ahead of the game!
I'm debating a Supercharger or Turbo charger also. That would put me around $33,000-$34,000
I also do not plan on selling it anytime soon so I might make back my investment. I had my last car for 15 years before I traded it in on this one.

Out the door - $25,700
Mods to date - $3,100
Mods waiting WAF (wife acceptance factor) - ~$10,000
Resale value is never a consideration when modding a car you love.

Hey Rich,
I betting I am a little older than you. (Me is 52) Never... Never... wonder if you can get your money back out of a car after you start modding it. For one... the obvious answer is "no way". Do it because it is simple something you enjoy and have fun with. If your in it for the money you have picked the wrong hobby. For instance... I had a 96 Cobra that I did everything too. Supercharger, lowered, best shocks, best handling package, gauges, alum d.s. and much more. Had at least 40 k invested and sold it for $18,500. I also blew it up and that alone cost 6k. Bottom line just mod your car and enjoy it because if you think you will every come out ahead...think again.

To date... around $37,000 but who cares!!

I definitely know what you mean and have commented on this a while back. All of the mods I do are for ME, but after a while you start to wonder about losing your a$$ on resale... or have a big strip-down auction . I don't plan to sell mine either, but I said that before, and as soon as another vehicle catches my fancy, I'm all over it... and lose my a$$ in the process . Yeah, it can be addicting, but what are you going to do... ?

Just start a collection and never get rid of any and you will never lose a dime. And you will soon have one to drive every day of the week.

Funny, I was just figuring out these figures last week. $25484.18 off the lot. About $3000 in mods give or take. And about $4000 more yet to come. There must be support groups out there somewhere.

'07 GT $25,850 OTD
Barely used C&L Racer $200
SCT X-Cal w/Bama Tunes $400
I'm on a self imposed one mod per month restriction. Luckily for me I had to buy the CAI & Tuner together.

after 2 or 3 years i'm already tired of a car and ready to move to the next one. so i'm kinda careful with my mods. so far i've spent $1100, with another 400 coming soon for a tuner.

Darn you Rich, honestly I had never summed the dollar amount until now........
~about $1400 in appearance mods
~about $3400 in performance mods (including dyno tunes, exhaust experiments, etc.
I will say though that I've been lucky in being able to install everything myself except for the gears and obvious dyno time. Those two things are the only things that I've paid someone to do to my car; if I paid labor for everything, likely the dollar total would be atleast 50% higher.

Just did some adding... Paid about 28K, got 3K in mods in 5 months. "That" added up quick . So I got an 07 with a little over 1K in miles and total cost w/mods is about 31K. What do you think it'd be worth right now??? A lot more to me than someone else that's for sure... I've always said that a car is the worse investment you can make... buy it for FUN, and enjoy . If you want an investment, buy a house, land, mutual funds, stock, etc...
