Steeda CAI VS C&L STREET CAI

Steeda CAI VS C&L STREET CAI

Im planning to purchase one of these but I was wondering which one does everyone prefer?

on steeda's website, they claim the CAI gains 30 rwhp/38 rw torgue. I was wondering if that is true.

I did a search but did not find the specific info.

Also, is the JLT CAI comparable to C&L or steeda? In terms of rwhp gain/ torgue using the same tune

I don't have a CAI yet, but I would like to get on in the future. From what I have read on this board it seems to be the tune more than the CAI that makes the difference. It doesn't seem like you can go wrong with the Steeda, JLT, or the C&L. All are sold by Brenspeed which is where a ton of people are going to tell you to go.

I'd e-mail Brenspeed and ask them some questions. They have been great about answering my e-mails quickly with a lot of good information.

the jlt and the c&l are darn close within 2hp and 1tq. I would look for some independent testing of the steeda before I believe their numbers.
38tq gain seems kinda high and the 30hp is kinda high also to me anyway.

I was talked out of getting the steeda CAI because of concern for how the intake shield was mounted. I took a vendors word for it since they had run both. I am not very happy with the C&L head shield either. The steeda one certainly looks like they put more time into designing propper fit and interfacing with the hood.

I think I saw a dyno graph on one of the other forums of a stock vs steeda cai, very similar to c&l and JTL.

If I had it to do over again I would have picked the Steeda piece. Performance being equal, I'd rather have the better looking one.

I've had my Steeda CAI for over 2 years now, and it still works flawlessly. My results on the dynojet were 293 Max RWHP/ 309 Max RWTQ with SAE correction.

The results are with both the Steeda CAI, and Steeda UDP's

I would do whatever one is cheaper, they are gonna make identical gains...

I agree. I think between the three, it is just going to come down to looks and price.

I'm thinking about going with the steeda CAI. Here where I live, they only have 91 gas.

I wonder how much rwhp/tq im going to lose going with 91 fuel vs 93.

Also im running 20" dd bullits, What should I expect my rwhp/tq will be with the CAI and 91 fuel? Thanks.

I got my Steeda CAI/elbow from Brenspeed. When I was doing my research, they said it was the tune, not so much the CAI, that made the difference.

I also made sure that I could reuse the cai and the SCT tuner with a Brenspeed supercharger when I'm ready to upgrade.

Shawn at Breenspeed answered this question for me when I purchased my Cai and Tune. He told me that all the top intake's will give you the same gain's and it comes down to which one you like the look's of the best. I chose the BBK . It along with their 93 oct tune knocked a full half second off my 1/4 and added 3 mph.

Well if I was going to get the Steeda I would get their high flow elbow.

I have a Steeda with High flow elbow. SCT claimed during testing that the Steeda had the highest gains with their tuners.

I would say, Steeda Cai, with Bama tune. IMO

The vendor was a tool if he said the heat shield wasnt good. Mine is identical looking to the above photo.

I think the issue that they claimed had to do with how the heat shield attached and was held in place. If I remember correctly it was hard to tune because the heat shield and filter bounced around, which resulted in inconsisitent MAF readings. Honestly, I wish I would have bought the Steeda CAI, but I have the C&L racer and it works just fine. My wife will never go for replacing parts that I already bought. I even offered to buy a CAI for her car, just to make things even.

The only difference That Is apparent is the C&L racer intakes MAF housing is larger, because of the larger diameter MAF housing later mods will be accommodated by this. If you go to brenspeed site they have a write up on comp cams stage 3 cams and mentioned that the larger maf housing helped with air flow which equaled a hp/tq gain. So, if you should have future aspirations of modification I would opt for the C&L, which is what I did because I plan on a cam installation. Otherwise steeda does just fine with their CAI, other than their redonkules prices. If the crazy price of these components has you fighting with your wallet I have 2 words for you 1.) EBAY 2.) Patients.

I've had my Steeda CAI for almost two years and have had no issues with it. I also added the high flow inlet elbow when it became available, No rattles or problems installing the system. As it was posted earlier, it's all in the tune. It's really just the beggining mod to either get more HP out of the engine or stay with what that mod gives you.

Not true in the real world.

I spoke at length with Pat at Steeda.ca, and he told me that what they're generally seeing is 23 HP/23 ft lbs torque gain.

That sounds believable.

Combined with the improved throttle response, however, the net effect really does "wake the car up," according to most people. I'll find out for myself next week when I install mine.
