Just got back from Charlotte on Friday night. I went to the Thursday (first day) of the celebration.
You're right if you thought the website was vague. It took some figuring out (and a LOT of walking), but by noon, I had it figured out.
You park in one of the lots across the street (the VIP $20 parking is still a LONG walk, but it had a pedestrian bridge over Concord Parkway). Then...if you wait for one of the (many) free shuttles - and if you know where to go - you'll have a relatively easy time getting about.
I know it's late now (the event ends today) but just to review - don't go to the infield through the tunnel at Gate 1 (way too steep and it wasn't even lit when we went through), instead, wait until the shuttle stops outside Gate 26. This is the tunnel that all the vehicles drive to the infield through, much shorter, less steep and well lit.
The infield had at least a thousand parked cars, the vendor's midway, the media center and a display by Ford featuring all generations of Mustang. At 11am, the crowd was invited to go to the stands to take in the opening ceremonies which included Bill Ford riding out in a 50th anniversary edition 2015.
After the opening ceremonies, the open track cars took the track back over and they weren't going slow. Having fast LOUD mustangs circling the track while walking about the infield was great.
After taking in all the activity in the infield (which could take days), there was the sway meet out behind the track, there were hundreds (and hundreds) of Mustangs parked out front (including the M.O.R.E. section for Mustang club parking). There was also a tent in the corner of that front lot that was LOADED with super rare Mustangs. There was also a "runway" of original owner 1964 1/2 Mustangs up the ramp to the main entrance to the Speedway gift shop.
I know I only saw part of the show, but I only had one day. Here are some of my photos from the event:
