What makes a car collectible?

I have seen a lot of discussion on this and that I would put this out there to get some opinions. I think we can all agree that age and production numbers have quite a bit to do with how collectible a vehicle may become, obviously if there are only 5 of a vehicle made it will retain/gain more value than one that they produce 5,000 of. It is not unlike many other collectible items. I feel that the overall value of a vehicle depends on demand that the "collectors" place on it.
To me it seems strange to talk about a new vehicle being a collector's item one day. I feel that many owners of cars that you see going at BJ or other auctions didn't purchase it because they thought, "one day this will be worth a ton!" Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you think.

I think the boss guys think that their cars are collectible. Even though the 13 is coming and probably a body change in 15. Let's see how well this one goes.

The Boss IS a limited production vehicle and some colors even more rare than others. I could see the one off Blaze Yellow and White being a possible collector's car one day. I plan to own mine forever and can't imagine it being found in a barn years after I am gone, but if it was would it be worth $$$$$$$$$s?

I have no idea what you are talking about. I have heard rumors of such things, except from the Canadians, but have yet to see it materialize. And I do have a red key, but it doesn't do anything different to the car.

But probably the most collected is an original GT500.

The only thing that makes a car or anything collectable is when some one else wants to buy it . When I had my '67 Mustang I tried selling it for $10,000. with no takers but after Gone in sixty seconds came out I sold it for $45,000.

This and media hype along with rarity. There are still terminators going for $30+. The Boss will resale high as long as the owners keep demanding high $$ for them.
