Ready to go green!
Well guys, since the search for my race car is over, I figured I'd start a new thread to document my racing career.
I'm going to be entering my very first sanctioned competitive race with actual prize money on October 29th in the FWD Enduro race at South Bend Motor Speedway. It's a 1/4 mile paved oval, and if will be a 100 lap race.
My car is a 1996 Honda Civic DX 5 speed that I picked up off of craigslist from another Indiana short track racer. Right now I'm working through some minor clutch issues and getting comfortable inside the car. I drove it down our country road today for the first time, and it's
pretty awesome! I plan to re-paint it and change the number, but may not before this first race. This is going to be so awesome!!!

I emailed the track over the weekend to ask if I could practice. They have practice nights over the summer, but they are over now. They wrote me back this morning and it looks like they are going to try and accommodate me!
Right now I'm looking for a firesuit. If anyone has and idea of where I could find a cheap used medium, let me know. I've looked on eBay but I can buy a new one for what most of them are asking.

Can you use nitrous? We have a local roundy round event where people can use small FWD cars and one of the guys who raced in the event wired in his dash mounted nitrous switch without taking his hands of the wheel with predictably disasterous results.
The 1/2 mile oval he raced on had a nice kink on one of the turns and he over drove it and in the course of correcting his mistake he activated the nitrous. I wasn't there to see it, but I was told his car stopped turning and when straight into the wall. My buddy went to see the guy the next day and said he moved like Mike Tyson (at his peak obviously) had used the guy's chest as a punching bag.

No nitrous. The rules say the car is supposed to remain mostly stock except for safety modifications. (roll cage, seat, belts, removing any flammable material from inside the car like carpet, seats, doorpanels. etc) you also have to take any "loose" pieces of the car off that may break or fall off and create debris like the lights, windows, etc. Its a pretty extensive rules list.

Good news!
The track owner got back to me and said that I can get some practice laps around noon on race day. Hopefully we don't break anything cause it won't give us much time to fix it.
Other good news... the radio station I work for is going to get me some legit decals for the car! We have a sign company the advertises with us who did the station Expedition's vinyl wrap for promotion, and they'll cook up some stickers for the hood and the rear fenders!
