Ethanol Power Gets Fox Body Into 7s
Fitted With a Small-Block Ford V8, This Corn-Powered Fox Body Races for Cash in the Ethanol Nationals
Ethanol has been gaining in popularity among tuners because of its unique combustion characteristics, which benefit turbo engines. With drag racing’s love affair for the turbocharger, it only makes sense that people started seeing who had the fastest ethanol-powered car.
While not the fastest, there’s no doubting this corn-powered Fox Body can boogie down the 1/4 mile. Bucking the trend of using LS power in a Fox Body, this Mustang instead uses a 352 small-block Ford. 30 PSI of boost from an 82 mm turbo produces about 1,300 horsepower, which in its current form is good for consistent, very low 8s.
Owned by Rich Forst, this Street Race Mustang racked up an 8.2 an 8.4, and ultimately an 8.11 in the first day of competition. Day two saw even better results, with the car’s first pas in the 7-second range, barely. Timing scored him at 7.99 at 174.44 miles per hour. It was backed up by an 8.02 on his next pass.
Competition notwithstanding, those are some quick times from corn juice. Competitors might have seen things differently, as they had to chase his tail lights during the first few passes. Advancing through each race seemed to be quite easy. So how did he finish? Watch the video below to find out.
