A 95-year-old World War II veteran has received countless donations recently after being scammed. Harry Donovan wanted to get his 1967 Mustang restored, but instead was scammed out of nearly $10,000. To add insult to injury, when he finally took the car back, it was missing a lot of its original equipment. Donovan felt a bit helpless, but a call to Indy Star‘s Call for Action set donations in motion. All forms of donations started coming, including cash to redo the project, sheet metal to replace some damaged panels, and nearly a half dozen engines and transmissions.

The restoration will be done by The Finer Details, located in Danville, Indiana. With the over abundance of parts, and nearly $20,000 inĀ GoFundMe donations to work with, the restoration is expected to take just a few months. Any excess money that is not used will go straight to charities that assist veterans. Understandably, Donovan was overwhelmed by the support. “It’s just great,” he said.

Donations are still welcomed, but right now the best donation would be in the form of media blasting materials, according to The Finer Details. They feel the restoration deserves nothing less than a full strip and repaint.
