Ken Block’s Gymkhana Ten: Did You Miss the Trailer?
Will this be the best Gymkhana yet?
For a busy guy, Ken Block clearly has way too much free time. Case in point: He has just released the teaser for what will be the 10th installment in his signature Gymkhana series of videos designed to promote…wait, what do these promote?
Apparently, there’s a Monster energy logo or two in there somewhere. It seems Block and Monster are doing their best to follow the Red Bull model and become a promotional company that happens to sell caffeinated drinks. So, it’s not that Block isn’t busy: Hooning these cars is his job.
Do what you love
And what a perfect fit it is for the former World Rallycross Championship racer. Block’s skills behind the wheel have been on display since 2008 now, helping confuse would-be racers about what the word ‘gymkhana‘ means and selling Ford Fiestas like nobody’s business.
The Monster crew didn’t take the 10th installment of the series lightly. Episodes one through nine have gotten progressively wilder, with a new location for each film, and a total of seven different cars have appeared in the various Gymkhana shorts. How do you raise a bar that’s already been raised nine times over? Do it all in one film.
Drift de resistance
That’s the plan. Rather than commit to a single location or car, Monster’s team will trail Block through a smorgasbord of tire smoke in five different vehicles across locales both urban and rural. If these films get any more high-budget, they may need to seek a rating from the MPAA.
Block has been tight-lipped about the specifics for the film. A look at the trailer confirms Block nearly catapulted himself off the side of what looks like Pikes Peak in the infamous Hoonicorn Mustang, and offers a glimpse of what appears to be a vintage Escort rally car in a more technical setting. Of course, one of the rigs is completely new for number 10.
For those who can’t get enough, Amazon will be offering a supplementary Gymkhana Files series that follows Ken and crew over eight episodes as they create the world’s most astounding automotive eye candy. The only question left to ask now is: Will it ever end?
