New Edge Mustang unavoidably T-boned a Buick LaCrosse at a cross-stop in Texas, San Angelo Live reports.

One of the scariest things about driving is the fact that no matter how careful you are, no matter how patient you are, no matter how observant you are, you only remove half of your risk. You don’t drive in a vacuum. You’re out on the road with thousands of other drivers, many of which don’t have the same amount of driving skill or attention span or commitment to safety as you do. The road is a complex system of moving parts and sometimes one of those parts keeps moving until it hits another one, such as this Mustang.

According to San Angelo Live, “A maroon-colored Ford Mustang was west on the Houston Harte frontage road and its driver did everything he could to avoid a stop sign-running driver of a silver Buick.” The Mustang driver slammed on his breaks to keep from hitting the sedan. He left skids marks on the road in his attempt to stop before the point of contact, but they only ended up leading to the scene of the accident. The impact caved in the passenger-side doors of the Buick. The Mustang got the brunt of the damage; its front end got mangled, its hood got shoved upward, and the back driver-side wheel came off.

San Angelo, Texas police said witnesses told them that the Buick driver actually ran two stop signs before colliding with the Mustang. After the accident, both drivers went to a local medical center; the person who was driving driving the Buick took an ambulance there. The good news is neither car was carrying passengers.

Like we said, it’s scary out there. Let’s hope the Buick driver was scared straight by this whole experience. It ended badly enough, but could’ve ended much worse.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
