The company managed to make the Mustang Mach-E sound like a proper muscle car, but will people buy it?

There are a number of reasons why many enthusiasts simply don’t like EVs, but one of the biggest is the fact that they operate in dead silence. There’s no denying that EVs are generally impressively quick, but rocketing from a standstill to 60 mph is a pretty weird feeling without some roaring V8 letting you (and everyone around you) know what’s going on. Now, however, Borla has come up with a solution it calls the Active Performance Sound System, and it makes the Ford Mustang Mach-E in this video sound exactly like its ICE pony car counterpart.

It’s certainly strange to see the normally (mostly) silent Mustang Mach-E fly by sounding like some muscle car, but it also makes quite a bit of sense. After all, the EV crossover already makes some types of noises depending on what mode it’s in, so Borla is just giving it a more traditional sound. They accomplished that task by strapping some microphones to a variety of Borla exhaust-equipped ICE vehicles and then recording everything – from idle to acceleration and even the ever-popular “pops and bangs” that the kids like these days.

From there, the company was able to piece together a cohesive soundtrack that works in harmony with the Mach-E. That means when you’re sitting in traffic you’ll hear your EV idling, while the volume increases as you progressively plant your right foot, then emits some pleasing sounds when you let off. It’s an authentic experience, if nothing else, which is a bit ironic when you think about it.

That isn’t all there is to this sound system, either. Owners can adjust the volume, tone, and even choose between Borla’s ATAK, S-Type, and Touring exhaust notes for a more customized experience that goes far beyond the typical active exhaust system on an ICE vehicle. However, it also makes us wonder – will people actually go for something like this, or will they simply dismiss it as unnecessary or just downright weird?
