Big Turbo S550 Mustang Terrorizes the Strip with 7-Sec Runs
Owner of this wicked quick S550 Mustang keeps throwing power at it and it continues to reward him with new PBs.
Cars have certainly gotten faster in recent years, and it’s pretty easy to buy something right off the lot that will run a 9- or 10-second quarter-mile. But getting into the 7-second range still requires some serious hardware, and that certainly describes the wicked S550 Mustang in this video from YouTuber Drag Racing and Car Stuff. Packing a massive turbo and sporting a pretty awesome look to boot, it’s no surprise that it was the belle of the ball at the recent Street Car Takeover in Indianapolis, where this footage was captured.
The S550 Mustang – owned by Joe Holt of Holt Auto Body & Performance – is powered by a heavily fortified 5.0-liter Coyote V8 built by Fast Forward Racing Engines. We don’t have a ton of specs on the engine itself, but we do know that it’s running a massive 98mm turbo, a custom calibration from Juggernaut Performance Tuning, and 1320 Junkie Performance’s boost-proof Boss manifold.
The modern mill is also churning out some serious power, effectively put to the ground via a four-link rear suspension from Moore Race Chassis & Fabrication, because here we see the car run a wicked-quick 7.66-second pass at 181 miles-per-hour.
That’s even more impressive when we consider the fact that Holt was battling less than ideal conditions, with a DA (density altitude) of 4,000, plenty of heat and humidity, and a little rain that had to be dried quickly by officials. Regardless, Holt kept throwing more power at the car and it kept rewarding him with new personal bests, each and every time he lined up, even though this particular combination was new and untested.
It’s clear that this combination is capable of much more, and Holt plans on running it and fine-tuning it until he extracts all of its potential. And while it’s no secret that the Coyote platform is wildly capable, it’s still incredibly impressive to see one catapulting this newer Ford Mustang down the drag strip in such a violent manner.
