Automobile Gets a Ride in the new GT350R

I don’t think there will ever be enough coverage of the new GT350 twins. The 5.2L flat-plane crank howling like a banshee, scaring Londoners or sliding its butt up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will just never get old. The car is easily one of the most eagerly anticipated cars of the year, if not the decade. It’s a return to the racing heritage Shelby started so many years ago, and baby do we want more.

A few days ago, Automobile was given the opportunity of a lifetime to ride shotgun with Ford’s test driver in the new GT350R around Grattan Raceway. The car sounds terrifying. It’s all hellfire and brimstone, and it looks properly fast. And given the fact that this GT350R later proved to be faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 on the same track, the car is going to be an absolute animal.

The new Shelby GT350R redlines at 8,250rpm and makes 526 horsepower; it’s no wonder the sound this car makes can only be described as a symphony of destruction. We can’t wait to have a go in it.
