New Facebook Scam Targets Mustang Fans

Reports have surfaced that scammers have been using bogus Mustang Facebook pages to con people into a liking the pages with the promise that they could win a 2013 model of the Ford pony car.

According to a SoftPedia.com report, potential victims are told to like the so-called fan pages, share the photo and post a comment mentioning what color they want the car to be – black or white.

Once the scammers have conned enough people into liking the page and raising its value, the crooks can repurpose the page or sell it on the underground market, where the names can be used for a number of scams.  And with more than 5 million likes on the official Ford Mustang Facebook page, that’s a lot of potential victims, notes Softpedia.

Some of the fake Facebook pages have already collected close to 10,000 likes.

The Softpedia report even indicates that a page has surfaced intending to trick Dutch-speaking Facebook members into the scam.
