There’s a supercharger under the hood and nitrous on top, but those graphics are the real star of the show.

As far as styling trends go, a lot has changed since the late 1980s and early 1990s. The collector car community at large is begrudgingly acknowledging cars like the Fox body Mustang as true classics. We’ve seen quite a few exceptionally well-preserved Fox body Mustangs sell for big money lately.

However, it’ll likely be a while before there is a similar acceptance for period modifications like the ones seen on this 1988 Mustang GT. We expect that cars like this will gain acceptance and popularity as time passes. Buying this Mustang will get you in on the ground floor of that trend.

According to the eBay ad, this car was actually featured in the very first issue of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine back in the day. That magazine quickly became the bible for 5.0 liter Ford performance through the next two decades.

All the Best Parts, All the Right Moves

This car, with its bright side striping, Saleen accessories, and supercharged engine, would have been prime magazine feature fodder back in those days. This would have been one of the hottest Mustangs on the street.

We aren’t so sure about race victories, but when it comes to car shows, this Mustang has pedigree. A selection of car show trophies are included with the sale. This car has had the same owner since new, and they clearly loved it.

Other cool late ’80s custom car touches include a car phone and a sideways-hinged hood. We particularly like the Recaro seats with net-style headrests.

There’s plenty of power on tap, too.  Besides the Paxton blower, this Mustang is also set up for nitrous oxide, with another 150 horsepower on tap with the push of a button. Naturally, there’s a welded six-point roll cage for safety.

Mustang performance has come a long way since the days when this machine ruled the street and strip. Sometimes, however, we wish for simpler times. With a classic Fox tricked out like this one, who could blame us?
