Mustang Mania Takes over Hot Wheels Legends Tour in Arkansas
Hot Wheels’ latest stop in Bentonville was pure Mustang heaven with a wide variety of rides including a very rare Twister Special.
Some things just never change. We grow up playing with Hot Wheels, sifting through giant bins at our local stores searching for our favorite models. Next thing you know, we’re doing the same thing, albeit scanning classified ads and filling up our garage with a real Mustang or two. And now, you can link these childhood and adult joys together thanks to the Hot Wheels Legends Tour.
Currently in the middle of an 18 city whirlwind tour, the latest installment of Hot Wheels’ incredible show took it to Bentonville, Arkansas. And we here at The Mustang Source were there to soak in all the action. Not to mention the incredible 110 degree heat index, which was nearly as hot as the many different Mustangs that were present for the event.
The premise of the Legends Tour is quite simple. Cars compete against each other in all 18 cities, with one overall winner being chosen to move on. Then, the 18 finalists are invited to the 2019 SEMA show, where the overall champion is chosen. That lucky ride is then immortalized forever in die-cast form. Can you imagine your Mustang hitting the shelves in 1:64 scale? Pretty awesome, we think.
The Mustang scene in Northwest Arkansas is incredibly large, so it’s no surprise that roughly 1/3 of the cars in attendance were ponies. Thus, there was a nice mix to choose from. From a newly bagged S550 to Mach 1s and a GT350 with a very cool livery, there was plenty to soak in for any Mustang fan. And for those who like forced induction, we spotted multiple cars with various types of superchargers, including a very nice Roush RS3.
Our favorite ride of the bunch, however, was probably an ultra-rare 2008 Twister Special. One of just 22 produced (including two prototypes), this Grabber Orange beauty pays homage to the original 1970 Twister Special. But that doesn’t mean this bad boy was stock by any means. In fact, it packs a ProCharger under the hood for more than a little extra motivation.
The Bentonville stop for the Hot Wheels Legends Tour was truly a treat for Mustang fans in general. And there were plenty of those in attendance. Hundreds of people lined the parking lot as early as 7 a.m., in fact. But if you missed out, fret not. There are still eight more stops before the finale at SEMA. You can find a full schedule of events, as well as info on the winners at each stop, by heading over here!
