Bullitt Mustang Celebrates 50th Birthday at Ponies at the Pike 2019
Oodles of classic, modern and downright gorgeous Mustangs took over Shoreline Park in Long Beach, California, for St. Patrick’s Day 2019.
Now in it’s 22nd year, Ponies at the Pike is one of the largest Mustang shows in Southern California, courtesy of Beach Cities Mustang Club. The SoCal event delivered a triumphant display of bespoke Mustangs, fantastic raffle prizes, great food and a huge enthusiast gathering for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration like no other. The event was initially slated for October 2018, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Steve McQueen’s 1968 Mustang GT 390 from the Warner Brothers hit film Bullitt, but unforgiving rain forced them to reschedule.
Ponies at the Pike takes place at Shoreline Park in Long Beach, CA, and featured more than 400 of the West Coast’s most beautiful Fastbacks, Fox Bodies, SN95s, New Edges and S550 ponies imaginable. From concourse restoration to highly-modified and super-creative, there was a pony for everyone to gush over.
Like this insanely-powered, carboned-out 2004 Cobra Terminator customized by Carbon Driven. As you can imagine, it’s got carbon fiber all over the place, including the fog bezels, decklid, interior and more.Â
As far as internals go, obviously there is nothing stock on this Termi except for the transmission. It’s blown, cammed and straight-piped, with a tuned chassis sitting on pair of huge Mickey Thompsons in that reign in 800 RWHP. The Whipple puts out a good 30 pounds of boost, in case you were wondering.
Then you have this titanic 1969 Mustang Fastback with a humongous, blown 351 motor. Officially nicknamed “Optical Illusion,” this super Stang is not only a show car but a monster on the pavement as well. The build started off with the owner recovering his car from a theft years earlier, which happened while at work. The poor pony was in a state of disrepair, so the owner decided to not just restore it but make a beast as well.Â
It has been featured in magazines and has won several awards since the early ’80s. These are but a couple of fantastic Stangs with great stories behind them present at the show each year.Â
Bullitt Celebration
The 22nd Annual Ponies at the Pike honored the 50th anniversary of the Mustang Bullitt with an awesome array of excellent condition McQueen mobiles around the iconic Shoreline Park Lighthouse. From a replica of the original 1968 version to the official 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt, attendees were treated to a thoughtful, awesome display of automotive history.
If you missed this year’s celebration, you’re in luck. As a bonus, the event will take place again, Sept. 15th, 2019, returning to its normal Fall schedule. So mark your calendars and be sure to come out for a second helping of Mustang greatness.
