YouTuber Shares Why He Chose the Super Snake & Never Looked Back

Behind every cool car is a collection of cool stories. And this auto enthusiast’s epic Super Snake journey is one of the best.

How did you end up with your Mustang? For enthusiasts like us, a car is not just a car. It’s a personal totem, an expression of our very selves, and a vessel with which to carry our most prized memories. That’s how it is for YouTuber Speed Phenom, the proud owner of a GT500 Shelby Super Snake with 1,000 horsepower. While the car itself is awesome, we think that the story behind it is even cooler.

For Speed Phenom, the journey begins several years ago, when he was living on a military base and saw a beautiful 2005 Shelby GT500 for sale. Up until that point, he was primarily into 4x4s and off-road vehicles.

Doing his research, he was pointed in the direction of the 2013 and 2014 GT500 Mustangs. He searched high and low, eventually finding one at a dealership in Southern California. Speed Phenom says that he stared at the car for an hour when we first saw it. We can certainly sympathize.

The next day, the car was his, and that’s where the journey really gets interesting. A week after buying his car, Speed Phenom took a road trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for a 50th Anniversary event.

While in Las Vegas, he visited the headquarters of Shelby American, which whetted his appetite for even more power. A couple weeks after turning his car over to Shelby, they announced the Signature Edition Super Snake, and Speed Phenom promptly changed his order to the new package.

But when all is said and done, it’s not all about the 1,000 horsepower on tap, the wide sticky tires, or the special edition floor mats. For Speed Phenom, it’s all about the feels. “The reason I own this car is for the experiences it gives me,” he says. “The reason I own this car is to experience life at the edge of my seat.”

We’re sure every Mustang owner out there understands exactly what he means.
