Turbo Mustang Fail

Turbos tend to be a fairly difficult part of a car to dial in properly. A few psi here, and it’s not enough to get the horsepower you want. Or a few psi there, and you’ve just blown up the entire engine and are out thousands and thousands of dollars.

However, when you have the right setup and right people working on it, a turbo is a wonderful thing. It makes way more horsepower than a supercharger could ever hope for, and takes up less room in the engine bay. In short, turbos are generally better when you really want to go fast.

That said, the video below is a good example of what happens when you tune your turbo engine incorrectly.

I didn’t actually catch it the first time watching, but you can then clearly see the hood pop up from some type of force within the engine bay. It appears the guys running the Mustang just had too much boost running and it blew the intake manifold straight off the top of the engine. Yikes.
