Mustang Mach-E GT Brings Detroit Power to Europe
Now available to order, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is poised to shake up the European automotive market.
Ford recently started accepting orders in Europe for the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT. The automotive market in Europe and the U.K. have certainly been more willing to embrace electric vehicles. And while the European market offers a wide range of EV and hybrid options, they haven’t got anything quite like the Mustang Mach-E. Ahem, maybe we should we call it the Car & Driver EV of the Year 2021 Mach-E.
Certainly petrolheads across the pond will be drawn to the Mustang nameplate. And the Mach-E GT works to retain its pony car heritage by offering a car with considerably more grunt and a genuinely fun performance.
The all-electric, dual-motor powertrain delivers 480 horses and and 634 lb-ft of torque. In fact, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT offers more torque than any Ford production road-vehicle ever offered to customers in Europe. Able to go 0 to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, the Mach-E GT is also Ford’s fastest accelerating five-seater ever sold in Europe.
And, being a Mustang, a lot of emphasis went into creating a fun and engaging performance. Features such as advanced MagneRide adaptive suspension and high-performance Brembo braking system add more responsiveness and agility. This GT powertrain calibration engages a greater proportion of torque at the rear wheels than other Mustang Mach-E AWD variants, and utilizes specially-developed tires that handle and distribute the extreme torque to the road surface.
The Mach-E GT has sharpened steering, enhanced throttle response, stiffened suspension, and augmented interior sound. Untamed Plus mode helps drivers balance the powertrain output on a track for lap time consistency; simultaneously adjusting traction and stability control for a more exciting driving experience.
It also gets a lot of squeeze for the juice: about 310 miles of range on a charge. Charging is fast, taking about 45 minutes to reach 85%, and 10 minutes of charge adding about 60 miles.
“Mustang Mach-E GT demonstrates the true potential for all-electric powertrains to dial up the fun-to-drive experience,” said Geert van Noyen, manager of Vehicle Dynamics, Ford of Europe. “This is a refined, premium specification five-seater SUV with the acceleration of a super-car and zero tailpipe emissions–a combination that was the stuff of dreams when I started my career as a car engineer 30 years ago.”
It seems safe to bet that the Mustang is going to do very well. When Ford debuted the Mach-E in Norway, it was a huge hit. While Norway has a smaller market, 60% of all car sales are EVs. As such, it is influential in predicting and setting market trends. In May, the ’21 Mach-E made up a staggering 10% of all new car sales; and maintained a stronghold as the very in-demand #1 selling car, kicking the Tesla Model 3 down to sixth place. Ouch, Elon.
Offered with Cyber Orange and Grabber Blue paint options, 20-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers and Ford Performance seats; the pricing will start at $93,400. Ordering in Europe is now open and vehicles will be delivered in the fall.
