Enter The Vipox

The Northern Lights are not the only phenomena attracting enthusiasts to Norway every year. There is quite a lot going on in the backdrop of those exciting lights. It’s not the extreme cold or never-ending days and nights. Rather, it is Norway’s biggest automobile festival known as the Gatebil festival. The festival is held every year with extreme fervor and passion attracting thousands of car enthusiasts from all over the world. Last year was just as exciting, but 2017’s event brought with it the opportunity to view a specific Viper V10-powered Fox Body Mustang in the flesh. The highly capable vehicle dubbed ‘Vipox’ (the combination the Fox and the Viper) was revealed for the first time at the Bilsport Performance & Custom Motor Show.

The Most Ambitious Team Pony Drift Project

Michel is the creator of Team Pony Drift – the only top-notch drifting academy in Scandinavia. Team Pony Drift also produces and resells Mustang drifting performance parts in Scandinavia and several other countries around the world. Michel has always had a high affinity for third generation Mustangs; this is evident in the fact that he has previously owned 6 of them. However, project Vipox is not like the others; Michel has gone all out with it, giving it all his attention and expertise.

Michel’s Vision for a Dream Drift Car

According to Michel, the Vipox is the ultimate Mustang drift car. The crazy car was forged simply to satiate Michel’s hunger for the ultimate drift car. It can never be part of any professional drift series until the team decides to customize the car enough to meet drift series standards and regulations. Michel and his team are highly capable of that feat, but that was not the initial purpose of the car.

Worthy Collaboration

Team Pony Drift is an authority in Mustang customization in its own right, so their guys were well capable of completing the entire fabrication process for the Vipox. However, because Michel and his guys wanted to make this project special, they instead chose to collaborate with Denmark’s leading drag racing workshop – All-In Race Cars. All-In Race Cars have been in the auto customization industry for years, so the experience and expertise that they had to offer in this project was invaluable.

What It Actually Is

The Vipox is a kit car, meaning it can be torn down to pieces very easily. Not in a bad way, of course. The entire body, excluding the roof, is detachable, which is necessary to ensure drift cars stay lightweight and possess perfect weight distribution. It almost seems like the car is capable of being the lead star in the next Transformers movie.

The Monster Under the Hood

The story under the hood is the most interesting and one worth telling. Its mammoth-sized Dodge Viper V10 is mated to a drag-spec BDS 8-71 roots style supercharger. The cooling system to tame the combustion engine is located on the rear end of the car. Michel was positive the engine would produce 1,100 hp once it is overhauled, tweaked and tuned to perfection, allowing the car to satisfy the required specifications. This power output is enough to give the Vipox rocket-like acceleration and a commendable power-to-weight-ratio.

The Right Transmission?

The monstrous car uses Dodge Viper’s stock 6-speed transmission together with a Spec stage 5 performance clutch. However, Michel has no plans to stick with that gearbox. An upgrade is around the corner and what could be better than a sequential racing transmission to make the car even better?

Exclusive 18-inch Rims

Drift cars need specially-tuned suspension parts and steering components, and Team Pony Drift did not disappoint in that regard. After all, their beastly car is worthy of only the best. And so, the Vipox hides Feal suspension and a Duncan Motors steering lock kit under its expansive body, both of which are customizable depending on the driving circumstances. The Fox Body sits on 18-inch rims clothed by Fifteen52 Tarmac wheels having specifications 265/40R18. The rims shine like a star adding to the blue and white guise of the car.
