Funny Car Driver Robert Hight will roll into the NHRA Championship playoffs with two consecutive wins after earning a victory at the Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts at zMax Dragway.

Driving his high-powered Team Castrol/Auto Club Ford Mustang, Hight posted a run of 4.083 seconds at 312.64 mph to take the holeshot victory against points leader Matt Hagan driving his Magneti Marelli/Rocky Boots Dodge Charger, according to an official John Force Racing site report.

“We’re trying to pick up every point we can,” said Hight, as noted by the racing site. “Not many people beat Matt Hagan on holeshots, and that team has been No. 1 all year for a reason. That was a 40-point swing for me, but we don’t have a whole lot of time to celebrate. We’re getting back at it again next week at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas under a whole different set of circumstances and conditions. It will be a whole new ballgame.”

Hagan still maintains the points lead in Funny Car rolling into the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex that runs Sept. 19 – 22.  After earning back-to-back victories in Carolina and the Chevrolet Performance Nationals in Indy, Hight now trails second place points leader, Ron Capps, by 86 points.
