When the dust settles on the S550, how will S197 be viewed?

I remember back in the begining of 2010 when the 4.6 was getting beat by the Camaro and Challenger, hell even the 370z was putting the wooping to the 2010 GT. It was a sad time to be into Mustangs for me. Every time i opened a magazine it was getting gang raped by any and all of the current "then" crop of sports cars. Then one day i open a magazine and see the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0! Wow what a Mustang! I watched anxiously as the new 5.0 promptly trounced all before it and wiped its *** with the competition! They all ran scared with there tail between there legs as that Coyote made all automakers take notice! Even the almighty BMW M3 was put in check by the new Stang hahaha! I new then that i had to have an S197 5.0. When the 2013 came out i fell in love all over again as Ford had perfected the S197. My 2014 is kinda a dream car for me as i drooled over it for 4 years pouring through endless magazine articles, dreaming of the day i would be roaring down PCH in my 5.0. At the end of the day i think the S197 will be remembered as one of the greatest Mustangs ever made and ill keep mine until the wheels fall off!

I really want to like the 2015 so the other day I had time to kill so I swung by a Ford dealership to look a fourth time at it. I figured after seeing the car three times in person prior and wanting to throw up , maybe this forth time would be different.
They had two competition orange 5.0's and one gray Roush RS V6 model. The Roush was 32k and 5.0 was 41k.
The positives of the car. The comp orange is a fantastic color. The black wheels looked killer with the orange. Nice looking interior.
Rest of the review. Still a fugly, horrible rear end. Front end is okay at best. I would never buy that car looking like that. Makes me even appreciate my 2011 that much more.
Because of how the 2015 looks, it made buying the 2014 CS 5.0 that much easier for my father. Not to mention the 8k off he got didn't hurt as well.
Shame Ford!

I meant that the Boss has slightly warn wider and stickier tires. If only there were some completely stock Bosses still out that that Randy Pobst could test back to back with a 15 GTPP.

when the dust settles on the s550 i think that 2 major themes will arise...
1. that the s197 and the outgoing look will be seen as end of an era, especially with Shelby's passing. Good bye to the real muscle car simplicity.
2. The s550 will be seen as the beginning of an era, with a more euro look and trending towards less muscle car looking and more sleek/efficiency and technology.
Having said that, i intend to own one of EACH !

The S550 will be the beginning of a euro looking sports car named mustang. Refined and carve cornering sports car that's rear end is horrid and has less muscle than a Olive Garden pasta dish.

I really wanted to trade my 2011 GT for a 2015 GT but I couldn't get passed the looks of the 2015. Let's face it the 2015 looks like a$$ compared to the 2014 even though it's a better car.

I have wanted a Mustang GT for at least 15 years - probably more like 20...but definitely a goal for the last 15. When the 2005 was introduced I had to have one. I never did. I noticed the 2010 refresh in 2011, and I had to have one, but I knew it was unattainable at the time, so I wasn't going to torture myself. I hated the 2013 refresh when it was introduced. A year later, I preferred it to the 2010-2012. I still do.
I saw my first 2015 at work one day when a Ford rep brought one from Dearborn to show the salespeople. It was a silver ecoboost. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't really feel like I wanted one.
A month or so later, we got a black ecoboost, and a blue 50th GT. I looked seriously at the GT, but I just couldn't quite fall in love with it. Not bad, and maybe some day, but looking at the S197 parked next to it, I didn't prefer the new one.
The other night, I see a yellow 2015 at work, parked my red 2014 next to it, and compared the two. I feel that I made the correct decision.
I think everybody has it right, end of an era, one of the best ever, as far as the 2014 goes.
2015 and beyond will do just fine, give it a year or two or so...the aftermarket will catch up, people will customize, ford will make improvements, SVT will get involved, etc. Everything will be fine.

ME TOO! I had a perfectly good tight 2004 Corvette, but when I saw thast SBY Boss in person and knew what it would do, solid axle and all, I knew the 'Vette was toast! My car easily outpowers and out handles my old Corvette, and I upped my suspension to Z06 specs!

Well, the only compelling reason to get a 2015 is the IRS. However that reason alone is not compelling enough for me to give up my 2012, especially after my 427 swap. Fortunately, there's a guy in Utah that sells IRS packages for S197's, so for considerably less than the cost of a new car, I could get an IRS.
However, the '16 GT350 is an interesting car. I could almost be talked into a straight-up swap for my 2012 if they offered cash in addition to the GT350...

This sounds like a pretty important piece of information you might share with the group... who is doing IRS conversions on S197s, and how expensive and invasive is the procedure?

This sounds like the Mustang IRS conversion being done by Duane Carling/CTM engineering in Utah. If so, this is a interesting modification.

I'm on mobile so I didn't watch the video, but I am having trouble convincing myself that this would ever be worth doing at that price.

For the moment, I would have a hard time justifying the cost of a IRS in my S197. Perhaps if one of the big names like Ford racing, Shelby, Roush, Steeda, etc. could offer these at a better price, then it might be worth it?

Agreed. If Steeda or Eibach came out with an IRS kit I'm betting the price wouldn't be anywhere near 6K. Nothing against the IRS kit in that link, I think it's a great setup but unfortunately its cost prohibitive for most owners.

I think the 2011-14 Mustangs will have a huge following. The genoration that loved the the early mustangs but bought brand new ones in the eighties tru 90's are just comming into the age where they can afford a toy in the Garage. Usally this translates to Fox body prices going up. But with the retro looks and added HP of the 11-14's there following will be great. I can tell you first hand that that age group loves these cars.
Everywhere I go I get people walking up to comment on the car. It will do just fine.
As for the new one not my cup of tea. But it was not meant for me at 48 years of age. They are after younger buyers. The ones who will carry the brand for the next 50 years. I dont think they hit the mark with the 15 with them. But they will in the near future. I'm happy to hand the baton to the younger guys. After all ford was kind enough to provide me with the Mustang of my dreams in both looks and performance. I'll stick with my 11 and smile all the way into the future with it.

To me being a fan of the 1969 & 1970 era the S197 is a very close match to those models and resembles true American muscle. The 2015 while having it's fan base is not for me, it is too Euro - Japanese for my taste. Hence the Mustang era for me is 1964 1/2 to the end of 2014. Even the 2010-2014 years had some of the earlier muscle car styling cues. When the dust is settled on the 2015 model my vote will be for the 2005-2009 S197 model. Mustangs as originally designed are all about American Muscle, it's a shame that the 50th year edition did not carry on with that theme. My opinion of course.
