Trans fluid change
Just turned over 62000 on 2010 pony V6 auto. do I need to change the fluid or wait a little longer ? it looks fine they say every 30.000 but that seems like a lot under normal driving.

My opinion... Check your owners Manual and go by Ford's recommendation as a minimum. I would rather by transmission fluid and over service it than by a transmission due to lack of maintenance. Especially if you are doing it yourself. I also will only put OEM fluid in my transmission. We literally just put a $3500 transmission in a SUV at work. Parts price only. Who is paying you ask? A local Jensen Tire. Why? They put a generic one size fits all tranny fluid in when they sold a trans service to a customer. Couple hundred miles later no fourth gear. Also no manufacturer warranty because it was completely obvious the wrong fluid was used. Coincidence you ask? In the nearly 10 years I have worked at my Dealer we have NEVER replaced a transmission in this particular model. So take my 2 cents for what it is worth... But I can buy lots of trans fluid before I can afford a transmission.

I had mine done at my local Ford dealer. Filter screen changed with a new one and flushed the torque converter, filled with new original equipment transmission fluid. I had mine done last year at 20,000 miles for 'peace of mind' It was only $200.

According to our owners manual the transmission fluid needs to be changed at 100k miles. Me personally, I'm going to have my changed at 60k miles. I have a tuned automatic and while she never gets abused in any way, she does get driven very spirited. (Wink wink)

That is totally a cost of ownership thing. The longer the fluid interval on a fluid then the lower Ford can advertise cost of ownership. Do the autos have a dipstick? On my Daily the recommended service interval was 60K. At 30K I dropped the pan and changed filter. When I hit 60K I am going to snake my suction pump hose down the fill tube and suck the pan dry. Will save on mess. Quick and easy. Got all the initial gear dust out. Should be good to go for awhile. And will always have nice clean fluid in the trans.

Actually the 2011+ automatics have a small dipstick on the front right corner of the transmission if you are looking at the car from the back. It's pretty useless to use unless you have a lift and the transmission fluid has to be at a certain temp to be checked accurately.
I asked my Ford dealer how much it would cost for them just to check my fluid level and it was going to be about $135. Now that is crazy.
A mechanic on youtube that has some videos on changing the fluid on the newer transmissions says to change it every 60,000 miles because the shift solenoids are sensitive to dirt or debris in the fluid. I plan on having mine changed at this mileage.
