MGW or bust.

Installed mine and it made a world of difference. I can push the car as hard as i want now and that fear of the 2nd to 3rd shift is gone. No ground gears, no lock out, nothing. Just pure bliss as the ball thumps into place.

I'm currently involved in getting my pony heard. The Heartthrob Flowpack axlebacks are in mid-shipment. My next purchase will be the MGW, eventhough the stock shifter isn't doing too bad of a job for me, so far. 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th and quick downshifts haven't been a problem lately. Early on, I missed them a couple of times, but not in the last few weeks. I think I've mastered the factory junk. But, I'm still upgrading to the MGW before long. Today, I got some new Rhino Ramps for the shifter and axleback changes.

I've had a Hurst, and if I change my '13 GT500 shifter, it will be for a Hurst, but it would also be for track applications. I had the Hurst in the '08 Shelby GT and I absolutely loved it.

I'm gonna try out the Barton 2 post and if that doesn't workout for me or its not enough of an improvement I'll def. move to the MGW after the stellar reviews I've seen.

I am new to this world of the newer Mustangs, I have rebuilt my 69 Vert and now I am the proud owner of a 2013 BOSS 302. I have been reading a lot that the MGW shifter is a must mod. So my questions are...

1. Whats the cost and where can I order one ?
2. Can I do this myself or should it be done by Ford and/or a trans shop?

Thanks !

You can order it from the link below. I don't have one but it seems easy enough even for those who have basic skills and hand tools.

The one thing I've heard that is common to almost all aftermarket shifters is the increase in NVH. I am not unhappy with the stock shifter and I like the fact that it is quiet but I'm always up for an upgrade if the gains don't come with too much of a trade-off. My car is a cruiser and DD not a performance vehicle... so how much noisier is the MGW shifter compared to stock?

Properly installed, the slight increase in NVH is negligible, and worth it for more positive rifle bolt shifting. I love rowing the gears holding the black ball on my Boss 302. I'll dig up a clip later...

My MGW with the heat shield and some extra dynomat is quieter than with the SR shifter/Steeda Bracket I had before. It is breaking in nicely as well.

I went with the Barton two-post for two reasons and I love it. Reason one is that Ford Racing sells the Barton. This tells me that there should never be a question of warranty denial because an after market shifter was installed. I'm not sure that would be true with other after market shifters. Reason two was the ease of install. It was **** easy. The throw is really short now, which I like. It is spring loaded and I don't miss shifts anymore. It is a little noisier than the stocker but well worth it for the improvement. It is also a bit notchy but I feel that is a bonus because I know exactly where the gears are either up shifting or down shifting.

Pretty sure a ford racing Barton shifter doesn't keep the warranty,...ford racing isn't ford. Could be wrong...

True, but it depends on the dealer. The warranty specialist at my dealer told me as long as I order from ford racing and they install it won't void the warranty as far as there concerned.

I thought if the mod isn't linked to the failure then the warranty isn't voided.

And if you're that worried about it and have a tranny problem ( under warranty ) down the road, put the stock shifter back in before taking the car in to the dealer.

This seems to be the case. The dealer I was going to said any mod voids the warranty of all parts touching it. You lower the car, you void the whole suspension, brakes, , engine mounts, etc. He named a bunch of things that wouldn't be covered. I stopped going there. My current dealer said as long as I don't put a tune or intake, the warranty is only void on the part I changed. I can live with that.

I'm at a crossroads between the Barton and MGW as well. I'm having the most trouble deciding between stock or flat stick shaft though for my 05

The MGW gave me other-worldly NVH. It is the race spec design as well. Buyer beware.

I'm at the same point. I already have the Barton 2 post bracket; which made a significant difference, but didn't solve all my problems. I still have issues with the 3-4 shift and the occasional miss/lockout in 2-3 and whatnot. Obviously its cheaper for me to just get the Barton shifter to finish it off, but I dont know if this will really solve the problem. May just suck it up, sell the Barton bracket, and get the MGW.

Hard to tell from the video, but sounds a bit familiar to what i heard when my park brake release button would vibrate. Took me forever to figure out where it was coming from. One day i pressed the button on the handle and it stopped. Could that be it?

Mine will occasionally buzz when it's warm over 3000rpm. Some WD40 did the trick.

I too am considering if this is right for me. The stock shifter is sloppy and it would be nice to have something more precise. The MGW shifter is the one on my wish list, but waiting until next Spring to pull the trigger. The vibration noise is my biggest concern and the primary reason I have not done the mod yet. Love to hear input on how to minimize the NVH. Is the mod worth it for a 5000k per year cruiser?
