05-09 and 15' comparo

Drove by the local ford and noticed they had a 15 on the lot, and I decided to take some pics. Sorry it was at night.

Wife's opinion: when we drove up, she was said, "is that the new mustang?" "That car is sexy." "That doesn't look like a mustang though."

Just thought it was interesting, because she isn't into as much as me and I felt like her opinion might be closer to what the general public might think about the redesign.

My opinion doesn't even look like the same family when you compare them to our S197s.

Personally I could pic out mustang styling cues all over the car.

Overall I think where our 05-09s where a modern version if the 60's. I almost see the 15' as a more modern interpretation of the new edge body style (99-04). I still think the Ford pushed the corporate front end too hard on the designers though.

What do ya'll think?

I agree with you. Our Mustangs are certainly 'retro' whereas the new Mustangs are the new interpretation of what they should be, right down to the 4 cylinder engine. Not my cup of tea personally but I'm sure many other folks feel differently.

We looked at them at two lots yesterday evening .... a better look than we got at Charlotte in April ..... and I like the rear end treatment and the front is OK, but I don't really yet like the stretched roof look ..... but likely I could get used to it in time.

Couldn't agree more and it's refreshing to hear a perspective other than typical Fustang bashing that's been going around several forums.

But ****...that S197 looks like a box compared to the sculpted lines of the '15. Almost reminds me of the difference between a '66 and a '69. '66 is a classic but looks like a tin toy compared to the other.

I agree with that part.

didn't think that, about the box comparison until I saw the O.P's pic, but at a second glance my S197 does look odd next to the S550.
BUT it's better looking.

I'll make the argument that theses cars are indeed cut from the same cloth.

Beautiful cars Wallace. I'm a little jealous :-)

Yes, the connection is easier to make between the 15' and the late model S197s, but much harder between our 05-09s. Would be interesting to see them lined up left to right 05-09, 13-14, and then the 15. :-)

saw a bunch 'for real' yesterday, gotta say they do look better in the sun than on a pedestal at the show... nothing ugly about them, but still not my cup of tea, but they are good enough theyll grow on me - something i'll never ever say about the 10-12 rearend- and the interior is really very well done. we all have our favorites, the 69 then 05 would be mine... Id put the 15 in maybe the top 5 model years appearance wise, after the rest of the first gens...well maybe after the 71-73 even... I definitely like it better than the fox or sn95s looks-wise, and surely the performance will be off the charts... I'm no into fancy stuff like fine china/artwork/clothes, but something about a good looking car just screams 'buy me' to me...not the 15 just yet, I might rather look for a 08 gt auto in vista to round out the set... had a wrist problem a few weeks ago and shifting wasnt fun for the first time ever, this getting older stuff sucks

Without question... Comments that it doesn't look like a Mustang are halarious.

I hate to say it(because 1. I'm getting tired of hearing the same complaints about how it looks and 2. It's a far better looking nose than the 2013-14), I saw one driving into work one on Friday morning and through the glare of its headlights I thought it was some kind of Infiniti. As soon as it got close enough I realized "oh **** that's the new mustang"(1st sighting in the wild). On the plus...they nailed the premium look IMHO.

I think the new ones make our S197's look blocky and fat. I LOVE my S197.

I don't dislike the 15's as a car. I just dislike it as a Mustang. The 05-09's are my favorite body style of the newer ones just because it seems reminiscent of the old muscle cars. The new car would be sexy as a car, but it just doesn't have that muscle car feel to it.

I bet f-body guys said the same thing about the first new edge.

I'd rather have a 05-09 S197. I'll take a coyote motor, interior upgrade, independent rear, and a warranty though!!
