Your GT350R is a pretty darn quick ride. But how fast will it actually go? Manufacturer claims about top speed are always a little susceptible to scrutiny, so hpedesign has given it a real-world test in the video below. The result? 169 mph. And that’s only in 5th gear. As the driver explains, there’s no speed to be found in 6th gear, because the ratio drops the revs too much. It also hangs out at just below 170 for a long amount of time. Based on that, any change in gearing wouldn’t bring much speed either.

In addition to gearing, aero is another factor. The wing and splitter components on the GT350R are there for a reason, and that downforce punches a bigger hole in the air. Yes, it’s a top speed sacrifice in the name of cornering prowess and high speed stability. It won’t take long before someone tries to usurp this number though. Either through performance tuning, or trimming out the aero, there’s a lot of speed left in the GT350R.

What’s your guess for the next fastest GT350R? 180? 190? Who will be the first to crack the 200 mph barrier?
