The story of Eli Williams, the young car lover battling cancer whom Mustang owners recently held a fundraiser for in Alabama, has moved the UAW as well.

The nine–year-old, we covered here in a previous report, was recently invited to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan where the Mustang is built to serve as honorary plant manager for the day.  The young Mustang fan was also given a 50th Anniversary Mustang hat signed by Bill Ford for his day on the job, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

In addition, Eli, who is fighting a brain tumor, also had the opportunity to tour the River Rouge plant and the Henry Ford Museum. Eli’s day at Flat Rock included being driven to the plant in a blue Mustang GT and seat time in a brand new red convertible model driven straight off the assembly line.

The Detroit trip was paid for by the UAW for Eli and his family for a brief escape from the troubles of his illness. It also included stops at an aquarium in Cleveland and Niagara Falls before arriving to the Motor City.
