New Mustang Takes a Trip to Space

Here’s something you’ve probably never seen: a Mustang taking a trip to outer space.

Yup, that’s right. A miniature model of the new 2015 Mustang was sent up in space for what we imagine is the first trip of its kind for the Ford pony car … or likely any other automobile.

Fitting, considering that with over nine million Mustangs sold over the past 50 years, the car can just about be found all across the globe.

The space experiment was the brainchild of a group of friends from Big Valley Ford in Stockton, CA who wanted to celebrate the Mustang’s 50th Anniversary.

The balloon carrying the Mustang, which set sail on May 2, reached an altitude of roughly 21 miles before it popped, sending the Mustang and two cameras tumbling back to earth. The car and camera were recovered some 6 hours later, still filming.

The video below captures the journey that likely the most diehard Mustang fans would pass on even if they could be scaled down to fit in the car.
