JBA Dominator Widebody Mustang: Video Inside

When the editors of Road & Track Magazine invited JBA to their High Speed Shootout back in 1989, little did they know that it would spawn the creation of one of the most legendary Fox-bodies of all time, the JBA Dominator Widebody car!
After a confirmed invite to the event, JBA contacted FoMoCo for help and a new ’89 LX hatch was selected. It was obviously lighter than a GT and although heavier than an LX coupe, it had better aerodynamic numbers.
What then ensued was all-out insanity, as what’s claimed to be the first IRS in a Fox Mustang was installed along with the, now infamous all steel widebody fenders, the massive wheels, Recaro seats and even a Capri bubble-back hatch to help with down-force at the planned high speeds. The Capri hatch was later replaced with the current wing.
There are conflicting stories under the hood since it’s been claimed that a 358 cubic inch 351 Windsor-based motor was installed while other sources state it was actually a smaller 320 cubic inch mill. It was confirmed that the motor was connected to a 5 Speed Doug Nash gear-box and bolstered by an N20 system.
The car ran over 175 mph during the test and surprised plenty of ZR1 Corvettes and other high-zoot competitors. Although some dislike the wide fenders and crazy wing, I happen to think it’s one of the most legendary Fox-bodies of all time.
