Hero Car
The 1968 Mustang GT is the "hero car" was actually driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 movie "Bullitt", and will be up for auction at Mecum Kissimmee in January of 2020. This is the model that was featured in the majority of scenes from the legendary car chase that ripped through San Francisco.

A Commuter
After "Bullitt" was completed, this 1968 Mustang GT was sold to Robert Ross, Warner Bros. employee. Ross used the iconic car as a daily commuter and there's evidence of this in the form of a Warner Bros. parking sticker on the windshield.

History and Documents
This car has had numerous owners over the years and comes with various registrations that match its ownership history. For anyone who's worried about authenticity, included in the sale is a letter from Warner Bros. which clarifies that the car was used in the movie. The new owner will also receive a letter from Steve McQueen outlining that he wanted to purchase the "Bullitt" Mustang.

A Piece of History
The lucky bidder who wins this car at the auction will truly own a piece of silver screen automobile history. This Mustang was the 21st vehicle entered into the National Historic Vehicle Register and wasn't shown to the public until the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

Lights, Camera, Action
Every alteration on this car tells the story of its history. Its paint was purposefully scuffed to give it a more tried and tested look. There are also three camera mounts that have been welded beneath the rockers to capture the iconic shots you know and love from the movie.

Drivetrain
Under the hood sits a rebuilt S-code 390 ci V8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor. Enhancements were made to improve the speed of the car and the sound of the engine. All of this car's power passes through a 4-speed manual transmission.

More Alterations
Steve McQueen saw this Mustang as a character itself and not just another prop. As such, he wanted the car to be altered to match its character. Its GT emblems have been removed and the grille blacked out. McQueen also had the backup lights removed.

Wheels
McQueen made a final alteration to help this Mustang match his Bullitt character, Lt. Frank Bullitt. He swapped out the car's original wheels for gray Torq Thrust wheels, making this Mustang look just a little bit meaner.
